some guys are really lacking lore insights : - orks have certainly the poorest equippment as aiming of all armies, to the point no one but them can actually make their stuff work thanks to their latent psykic power (red goes faster motto) their armor is terrible but for the pieces they actually have stolen to imperial guards ^^ - imperial guards have quite decent troops compared to orks or eldars, their armor is good and various, and they're supported by terrifying artillery even space marines are envying them. If orks are in the game, imperial guards can as should be.
I agree. It also would be great to make IG mechanics similar to Orks = free basic guardsmen and P2P advanced troops. I suppose it could be even better for devs profits - not everybody wants to play orks and a lot of new players could be attracted to the game if they have a choice between IG and Orcs. You know, people from CoD)
The future of Imperial Guard actually depends on the future of the game. Simply put, to have guards, you need to have a successful game first. From a company's perspective, there will be new stuff as long as there is money to be made. I would love some guards. Best way to make it happen is to support the game, play the game, finance the game, etc. Everything is possible as long as the game is a good investment. Even if some people would not like, or do not see the feasiblity of something, the question that always needs to be asked is whether putting efforts into making it happen is worth it. As they focus on the "vertical" aspect of it now, core mechanics, balance, instanced areas, character build progression, etc. and not so much about "pure content". Any new race would take a few years... We haven't played eldars, orks and it is strongly possible that Tau/Necron or anything else comes before guards. However, once the "core" is established, I'm assuming adding a bit of content will be easier on the team, but as all factions are quite different, it'll still take some times. If we get to a point where this game is a critical success, with a faithful player base, and a lifespan of a decade or more, I'm confident it will happen. However, there is much to be done until then. Best way to make it happen is like Nathan's shameless plug encourages us to do . Talk about the game, have your friends buy it and play, more founders, more money, better game. Judging by the quality of this alpha (I've played open beta with more bugs). I think that at launch, it will be a beautifully stable, balanced, enjoyable game, which should pretty much lead to a fairly good success, however, like many game, one risk is that they never actually get to the point where they give us all the content they wished they could've done before launch, and thats ok, sometimes these things take longer. As long as there are patches, updates, etc. I'm fine with it. However, that also means no new race before they can actually fully develop the 4 base races (terminators being a post-launch thing for example). I'd expect guards maybe like in 4-5 years from now (just a wild guess based on absolutely nothing but my hopes and feelings ).
Well from my point of view , i'm scared that after a few months the dev will stop updating the game and let it rot away .But for the IG there's just one thing : they are frickin weak ! When you compare an IG to an ork it seems that the IG doesn't stand a chance in the battlefield. Theirs only strong points are their number (if they are F2P , not a problem) and their vehicles. So if they have access to vehicles like the leman russ , baneblade, .... They might actually stand a chance against the others factions
As i'v said a dozen times before: The fact ork boys have poor equipment doesn't matter because the ones on Arkhona are elite and using better equipment then your average ork boy, what actually matters is that the ork boy can survive having a chainsword driven into his chest and having an arm ripped off ontop of that. An Imperial Guardsman can be decked out in the best equipment, but if a bolter shell penetrates his armor then he's just done, in no way is the upgrade given to Ork soldiers equal to the upgrade that would have to be given to Imperial Guard to make them viable.
So, nobody has mentioned yet that the devs commented on additional Imperial Factions. They are not at this point thinking about adding each individual one because there is simply too many, and as of now think a sort of "Heroes of the Imperium"(not what they would actually call it) possibly with Stormtroopers, Soritas and Adeptus Mechanicus, it they add them at all. Troops that stand half a chance, not the grunts of the Guard. The problem I've always had with more Imperials is that you guys are already slotted to be the largest population, and if it gets to the point where substantially more than 50% of the player pop is supposed to be on one side, it's really not going to be that fun if it turns into Imperials vs Everyone Else. I'd like to fight xenos, not be forced into a permanent alliance to have any chance of defeating Space Marines and pals.
Do we get a 'Heroes of Chaos' faction in turn? I'd be cool with the Imperials getting that if we get some sort of equivalent....I just worry about the Xenos population if that happens.
They could divide daemons into 4 subfactions and since individually their troop choices are limited they could give them "mortal servants" like Ogyrns and Renegade Guard. So Lost and the Damned with daemons. Blood Pact with Bloodletters would be the Khorne subfaction, etc. Give em looted Carapace Armor and then any explanation of why they ate roughly asemetrically equal could be explained as "because the warp." Course yeah, xenos would be kinda screwed. But I don't think any new additions should be perma-allied to any of the current 4 factions, including Imperials and other Imperials.
