The Dire Avengers have been classed as powerful at closer ranges, but terrible at a distance. I was thinking, with this in mind, from a game play perspective, only Reapers would be able to engage hostiles (infantry) at a longer range, and even then, they aren't able to take objective or do anything other than that. So in a situation where a squad needs to take an objective that is far away, a Reaper would be almost mandatory. So in a typical squad of five, you would have one Avenger, one Warlock, one Reaper, a melee class and either a fire dragon or a swooping hawk. It seem that Eldar squads could be punished for the lack of versatility. Leaving tight spaces that may leave certain classes obsolete. So I propose adding in a variation of the Avenger gun more suited for longer or at least medium ranges, to compete with the other factions. What are your guys opinions. I know it isn't entirely fluff oriented, but I feel from a game play perspective it may be needed. Since Space marine tactical squads have tac bolters, bolter, and stormbolters (as do Chaos).
We need to be close to medium range. Long range = random players trying to be snipers and not focusing on objectives. People are still learning the meta of the game. Objectives > Kills imo. So I must disagree. We have Hawks, and reaper for long range, with range elite unit. DA need to be close to medium range.
At some point of the development the Fire Dragons where supposed to be able to capture points too, but during the Dire Avenger Stream they only mentioned the Dire Avenger as a capping class The fact that only 1 in 7 classes can capture points might hurt us quite a bit, since the "standard ranged class" wont be popular enough to have in sufficient numbers and due to the Eldar's overspecialization we will lack variation(?) if we actually field enough of them. EDIT: I can't remember which Stream they said it in, but they didn't say or write anything about it later on.

Yes, but the other factions (so far) can capture points with their "standard ranged units" and their Melta units, and the Orkz can (iirc) use the Shootas and Sluggas to capture. This will leave the Eldar lacking in the "Capture Department".
I am not concerned for capturing. This is where players learn to play to win or play to have fun to be blunt. Every player should have a capture class load out and should respawn in to a capture class if needed. Too many people stay in the same loadout the whole game and missing out on min/max possibilities. This is where the skill gap between clan / factions / players will show imo.
when you are alone is hard to decide what loadout is needed, but when you play with other people become almost natural to look at the squad roster and create a balanced team.
I must respectfully disagree. The Tab button shows that classes everyone is playing. This is where player skill comes in and situational awareness. I play solo 50% of the time. Every time I die and spawn in I check to see if our team is balanced, type in chat what classes are need, and also use the "Z" button to ask as well. This is good to practice and also put in touch with many other nice players / clans / gaming communities as well. I thought Eldar have a high Initiative (pun intended)
