An interesting challenge. I'll partake. Also, I don't see the issue with 2500 words. It's more than enough to convey a story, and more than enough to flex one's creative muscles - especially given that the reader will know the IP. I highly doubt that the people who are being most critical of the word limit have either much knowledge of short stories, or any real experience in writing them. Writing shorts is just good writing practice, as it teaches one to be concise with wording. Odds are you're waffling if you can't define a couple of characters and outline a plot in that sort of space. Being too wordy is often criticised, even in novels. I see a lot of fanfic at about that sort of length, too - not least my own stuff. I'd recommend some of the larger writing forums out there for accessible examples of short story writing and, often, feedback on the genre if you feel you can't possibly condense your story down in to 2500 words. Katie/Ivan, any preference on first or third person?
Yes, let the ideas flow like Khorne's red river, let Tzeench guide your hands to create profound work, let Slaneesh fill your head with perverse detail, and let Nurgle make it stand the test of time!
Also they have said to look at Graham's example on the website. I'm ASSUMING that means we can do a combat story if you so please. Also take note that his story is actually something like 2230~ words. It's a fair amount.
From French to English. I have the basics in English, but litterature is harder than just... Talk. But if someone is skilled with both of these languages, he will be welcomed^^'
So would I be able to write about my own lore I created or does it have to be about a set sub faction? Mine is a deathwatch esque lore with the 4 sub factions available. Wil this work ?
Ugh. I've grown accustomed to writing weekly ~2,000 word engineering reports... I don't know if I am capable of "switching gears" towards creative writing, as it were... They are pretty compelling prizes though. Perhaps you poor blighters will receive a fan-fiction from me.
I may've accidentally disqualified myself with the subject of my story, but I had fun writing it either way. I may've taken the 'descent to arkhona' a bit too literally. The story was actually about the main character's first 'descent' onto Arkhona's surface, and so most of it is actually on the planet, though I abstain from writing in any great detail about any of the terrain. Probably messed myself up, and could've prevented it had I read the thread a couple more times, but I had fun writing.
