Being consistent with the characterization created by the actual author, and thus shared and created in the imaginations of tbe readers, including physical charateristics, is an important part of creating a good adaptation of a book into a movie. The director did not invent the characters, neither did the screenwriter(unless it's also the author) to say otherwise or that it's not impottant to the creative integrity of the filmdishonest.
It's funny you say that because the Emperor is often described as showing qualities of all races of man which apparently looks perfect (who are we to say that it doesn't?) with Bronze skin and a jaw line that would make a woman gush with thoughts of pleasure at 40 thousand paces. The point is that every author describes Emps differently. A friend of mine who knows nothing about 40k saw that picture of Emps and Horus and said "The Emperor looks very native, asian and white at the same time. What is he?" All I could reply was "He's a perfect human. I don't know."
