Also some kind of weight system, and its impossible to develop without statistical data, and we cant get statistical data unless we have all features in, because every new one will affect previous results... This is not an easy task, but something to be kept in mind over the course of beta up to release.
Let's try and stay away from the clan bashing. Further, bashing PG because they are doing what the devs want, ie, being excited, getting organized, and playing like a team sounds exactly like immaturity to me. Strength in numbers is one of the most fundamental military truths. Hating someone else because they have it gets you no where. I will state that working as a cohesive team is a skill, and is as difficult to master as YOLO solo playing for top kill count. That said, valid points on the dangers of extremes. It is very easy to sink into those when debating things on the forums and citing one off instances of poor play/behavior as the norm. When discussing KD and scoring, I am not trying to bash anyone, merely exploring ways to have a good experience for everyone, with equal accolades for frontline hack & slashers and medics alike. I go back to my previous point, if those chasing high KD are doing, "what they enjoy in computer games", then isn't that its own reward? Why then would they care if they were on the bottom of the charts and Mr Medic was at the top? Or the guy who drove the Rhino bus, ect? I know, because killing is the point of a shooter. But that is an interesting philosophical question to explore for everyone, I think. My personal answer is, "I don't want everyone to think I suck at this game if I am on the bottom of the scoreboard", but perhaps there are other, less selfish and insecure answers.
Why are you all the time thinking ppl think you suck because you don't have high K\D? Is this some paranoia thing? Play the way you like and let others play the way they like. Having K\D scoreboards in a shooter, even focused on team play, is nothing new or strange. I wouldn't be mad if this was hidden deeper and other stats exposed more but still I want to see that whenever I wish to and there's nothing strange or wrong about it, you don't like it? - don't look, go have a smoke or a cup of tea instead. Ps I;m not bashing PG and their style as such, only some immature idiots who play in their ranks, (However I didn't see this level of idiotism in other guilds I must say )
I have yet to see this KDR boogeyman that goes around belittling people for their scores, all I see is people afraid of their scores being belittled asking for nobody to be able to see these scores at all, which is not fair at all. If this figure exists I somehow don't think not showing scores will be enough to stop him from yelling at his team when they're losing, because trust me you don't need scores to notice when the game is going poorly. Killing does contribute to winning, you can't take a point unless you kill the defenders, you can't hold a point unless you kill the attackers, you can't revive a teammate unless you kill the enemies nearby that will kill you both. It's one of the most direct ways to contribute to victory after taking and holding points. I have no issue with wanting to have some more focus put on other ways players contribute to victory, I do however take exception to taking it off the scoreboard entirely. If I can't see how many people I've killed, and to a lesser extent how much I've died, then I just won't check the scoreboard, it's not going to encourage me to value these other factors more. If I'm able to revive a teammate, I already do, I don't need a stat to make me want to do it. As for deaths, well if you recall the Infographic actually said that dying less actually has a greater affect on winning than killing more does. That is a rather selfish outlook. Because one day, someone, at some time, may judge you for your score does not sound like a good reason to prevent everyone from seeing their scores at all times. The act of killing in a video game is fun, as is keeping track of how many you've killed, and how good at it you can get. Removing it isn't going to make the other things more fun, it's going to make it more annoying that you can't simply check to see how many you've killed like every other shooter I've ever played. A high kill player can get the most kills without getting the best score, it's something they can consul themselves with "Well I may have not got first rank, but I did get the most kills" while without being able to view their scores it would easily be discouraging to get to the end of the match and think "WTF, I was taking out all sorts of people, how am I in 10th place?" Which could happen. 20 kills is 2000 XP, which means someone who simply stood next to a cap point twice while it was being captured would have the same score.
I am still puzzled why some ppl question that, especially in a WH40k shooter. Exactly and now tell me who contributed more to winning?
The answer of course is, it depends. If the guy who was at the cap point was healing teamates as enemies tried to flood in, he certainly contributed, even if he didn't kill anyone. If the Killer was doing something like wiping out enemies coming into the Killroom at Blackbolt B before they could decap the point, then he was instrumental to the taking of B. Even if he was out of range for the XP.
Valid points. And I freely admit that my stance is somewhat selfish. At least I see that. I am also not advocating removing KD from the game. I don't think anyone is. There seems to be a consensus that having KD, and more, on a private page is acceptable. Seeing YOUR kills, deaths, executions, grenades thrown, points capped, health lost, ect ect is fine. In terms of the of the KD Boogie-Man, I have seen it, not here, but elsewhere. It usually starts with arguing and trolling, and continues on to endless, "Check the board, I have like 20 kills, and you have what, 3? LOLZ n00b. STFU. LTP". Thinking that this community is somehow immune to that, especially after launch, is optimistic I think. Valid point on the ranking. As well as the cap farming. Cap farming is a problem now that will hopefully be fixed with a more mature XP system. In terms of someone needing to be "consoled" by knowing they had the most kills, I go back to my point that, if it what they enjoy, isn't it's own reward? Truth in lending, I will admit that I am not a very competitive person by nature, and my going in goal is always, "Support the team, represent myself and clan well, and don't be an embarrassment or liability", so I am coming at things from a completely different perspective than you and Blade who sound like more competitive folks. It's been good to debate back and forth though. Very enlightening.
