    Dark Crusade
I loved how they made the campaign and base siege/defense

Soulstorm was the most hilarious campaign ever

DoW2 and Chaos Rising had a cool rpg campaign system, but it was quite repetitive
    Retribution campaign is awful
  2. Dark Crusade by far.

Soulstorm, I dunno, something wasn't right.

I liked DoW II and the expansions but I didn't like the fact that it took out the massive armies. Heroes were nice and all but...

Of the two primary games, I'd have to go with Dawn of War II. The expanded cover mechanics, improved single player, everything seemed to come together incredibly well. It really went a long way to making each unit feel significant, rather than just an expendable asset to hurl at the enemy. While it's not really a deciding factor, I did appreciate DoWII bringing things a little closer to the tabletop game.

But including the expansions, I'd have to say Chaos Rising. This is primarily because of just how much stronger the single player component was. I don't know if Relic will be able to make a Dawn of War III anytime soon, but I certainly hope we see some influence from Chaos Rising in its campaign setting. As a close second I would say Dark Crusade, for obvious reasons.

Incidentally, I always found it odd that people complained so vehemently about DoWII lacking base building. The tabletop doesn't use base building. As an adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 game, you'd think people would have appreciated that.

For me it was SS that made dawn of war complete. It was sweet playing a campaign of your favorite race and conquering a whole planet against each other race trying to do the same thing. It was a lot of fun and took up so much of my time because it was so well put together for a great RTS. I was hoping DoW2 would have the same feature but no they went back to regular campaign for each race. I was sad but still loved the game and wished they would have come out with it in a xpack as they did for DoW1 SS.

DC for me, Ive played and owned all of the DoW games and i honestly did love the graphics and quality of the battles in DoW2, but i agree with Luthor Wolffee that the style turned me off. I loved in DoW being able to build that massive army and crush you eneimes, leaving piles of bodies to mark where they made their last stands. DoW2 was a lot more fluffy in the abilites and some limited numbers but, in my mind 40k should be about those massive battles, fighting right on the edge of their base, their weaken army and base defences/turrets blazing away at you in a desperate attempt to turn the tide. Many hours lost in this glorious fashion!

Plus in DC, Tau, and it hadent quite gotten to an overwhelming amount of races to choose from and was still popular enough to make online play fun

I really liked that story telling in the old Dawn of War games,
    Dawn of war: Great Story!
    Winter Assult: Greater Story!
    Dark Crusade: AWESOME STORY!!!

Dawn of war 2 was good, but it wasn't as grand in scale as the first ones. Plus there are TONS of mods for Dawn of war 1 that are still being played to this day. So yeah, its a no brainer, dawn of war 1 is the best one for me.
FORWARD IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR!
  9. Dark Crusade, Fuck yeah Davian Cool

    ^ That.
Most who cling onto Dawn of War 1 cannot see beyond '' Epic Scale ''
And have thus been blind to all the small, great details which was part of DoW 2 and the related narratives.
