    WATER TRIBE!!
  3. if they give avatar they should give also land raider for space marines, big demon like big Unclean One for chaos, and big tank or other stuff for orks. I think if they give avatar they give ability for warlock to summon him for some time
PS Sorry for my mistakes in writing

FIRE TRIBE they're obviously superior to those silly water people, pfft, why else would they need an avatar to beat the fire tribe?

problem is land raiders are a good deal more common than avatars, and unclean ones are just one greater daemon type so a blood thirster, keeper of secrets, or whatever the tzeetch one is, I think it's a changer of ways, anyway any one of those would make a good choice, also warlocks already have wraith units in their tree, adding an avatar too would make everyone a warlock, also orks kinda just slap together whatever so I think that orks should get a few battle wagons or something from apoc, and since marines don't have anything other than mini titans that I can think of that would match the avatar or other large tanks, maybe instead of super units whoever completes their objectives on the current continent/planet should get a choice, say elite units for cheaper and with less of a cool down, vehicles for cheaper and less cool down, or super unit.

I'm a bit biased towards making the avatar a base assaulter type unit because having him walk along the continent would require him being very fast, which might make him op, if not as stated he would just get kited until he dies

The Path series isn't a great example of literary art, but it's one of the only works outside of the codex that gives a look at Eldar society beyond generalization, which the codex itself seems to suffer from. If only the Black Library were a little less Astartes focused...

I would imagine that one of the biggest factors in deciding whom is crowned the Young King, warrior or Exarch, is what the needs of the individual craftworlds are. For example, Iyanden may be more likely to crown an aspect warrior, not an Exarch, because of the desolation of the Valley of Khaine. Many of their shrines are in ruin; their warriors are few, their Exarchs fewer.

I know that there's no canon evidence of this, but I would like to think that the stronger the warrior spirit of an Eldar to be sacrificed is, the stronger the Avatar becomes upon awakening. This would make Exarchs the best choice in nearly all situations (Again, some craftworlds like Iyanden may not have that luxury), and aspect warriors a close-yet-undesirable-for-several-reasons second.

I'm too tired to put any more thought into it than that right now though.

That was my conclusion as well.

It's pretty much the only way to make sense of the fact that in one codex it has the Young king as an Aspect warrior, while for Biel Tan the Young Kings are explicitly stated to be Exarchs.

Which set me to thinking - How big a blow would it be for a craftworld to sacrifice an Exarch?

I haven't been able to find out how many Aspect Warriors or Exarchs Biel-Tan supports, and there is even some disagreement in the lore over whether an aspect shrine is limited to a single squad plus exarch (as in the novels) or whether there can be a single shrine to an aspect with many squads worth of Aspect warriors and Exarchs as is implied in the codex.

Nevertheless a typical Craftworld, (said to be between the size of a city and a small moon,) would probably house several tens of millions, (maybe even billions) of Eldar.
For reference London is home to around 8 million people, and despite multi-storey buildings can't really be considered a three dimensional structure.
So even 100 million Eldar in a city sized ship would be very thinly spread indeed (a single Imperial Battleship can have a crew of up to 3 million).

Despite this let's (very) conservatively guesstimate a figure of 20 million as a ballpark example (though a craftworld would probably house many times more than this).

On a militaristic Craftworld like Biel-Tan if even 1% of the population are walking the path of the Warrior and one in ten of those are Exarchs (going by the proportions in the TT) then that is still as many as 20'000 Exarchs to draw from.

The Young king is chosen every year so even if every one of these were sacrificed (which is unlikely as then Biel-Tan wouldn't have a court of the Young King) it would take 20'000 years for the craftworld to cycle through it's initial complement of Exarchs meaning that if they all formed an orderly queue a newly made Exarch could still have accumulated 20'000 years worth of experiences before their turn came round (for comparison the average Eldar life expectancy is around a milennium).

All it would require to replenish those numbers would be for one Aspect warrior out of the 200'000 or so on that craftworld to lose themselves to Khaine and become a fledgeling Exarch each year.

Well that was a long read.

Although the intricacies of how the Avatar is awakened is interesting, I think we should be focusing on game mechanics that would fit within the lore (if you look at it sideways and squint at it a little).

I think the best option is one that allows anyone to have the chance to be the Avatar. This should be someone who is using an aspect warrior and reaches a set number of points, while in a battle.
Once this point level is reach, the person has the option of becoming the Avatar. They should not have to be the Avatar unless they want to. If they don't take the option the next person to reach the required number of points can chose to be the Avatar.
Once someone reaches the points and takes the option to be the Avatar, then you can have some nice little event happen (maybe 2 swooping hawk exarchs grab the person and fly off with them, then 2 minutes later the Avatar can arrive on the field). It's not really important at this point.
After the Avatar is destroyed the point system starts all over again from scratch or a time is put in place so the Avatar can't be summoned for "x" amount of time.
The person who got to be the Avatar also cannot use that character they had been using for a set period of time. They will have to choose another character to play with.

I would also suggest that the Avatar can't be used in small battles, only large ones (the Devs can decide these types of things).

I think that will do me for a bit. I can elaborate more later, if anyone wants.
  9. ^You do have a point there concerning the player choosing her/himself whether to become an Avatar or not. The point system sounds plausible and I'm kinda fan of the suggestion of resetting the point plus putting some timelimit depending on the scale of the battle itself. Perhaps there should be some added number of Eldar players at any given conflict before the Avatar choice becomes active or something. It's just Avatar should so awesome that everytime it comes on the field of battle it should be a happening of epic proportions. Land Raiders and lesser demons are way too common and they're utilized every now and then, whereas Avatar usually comes with his sword only when the situation is very, very dire.

Since the game will be mass PvP, being able to control an Avatar would be cool for example when you capture a base and then you need to defend it has a bonus you could sacrifice one of you're Exarch's and summon the Avatar.
But i don't think it will be Possible to play with an Avatar becuse Lore wise an Avatar is a very strong being and not from the dawn of war games for example where space marines with bolters can shoot him down.
