ok whoever voted we don't need the avatar, I will murdilate your face off, you hear me? murdilate. your face. OFF! anyway, I think that if they do add the avatar as an ai for objectives and such, maybe have the council set these objectives and you get an exp or req buff for fighting near the avatar, another thing they should add is of course the avatar's iconic, melta sword, so let's face it, if the avatar sees you, and you're infantry, you should be pretty much dead, his aimbot like aim can easily be added with an aimbot, and if you give him a higher rate of fire fusion gun that didn't slow down his walking, that would be good, after all the avatar should take dedicated long range lascannon fire to take that flaming hulk down, so sayith me. oh and I got a reply from a dev somewhere (sorry devs, my ability to remember names is very low, sorry) I think his name was issac, anyway he said that the avatar might not be added but if they DO add him he will be worthy of his name, now I'm not saying he has to be out by launch, but just him being a statue on the eldar island would be great, and then as the fight drags on the statue could slowly come to life with every kill and death until it finally comes to life and breaks free from its throne, ready to bring death to the enemy once again
Just do me ONE big Favour. I know its hard to resist, BUT DON'T MAKE THE AVATAR A FUCKING OBJECTIVE TO KILL FOR THE SPEES MEHRINES!!!! We have enough of that already... -_-.
I don't want to see greater demons and stuff like that in the game, it could be ok for something like once at year event, it's the same as aircraft or artillery, the game is about infantry, if you add Avatars and stuff like that infantry is fucking dead before they can do anything, and if you want to add a shitty Avatar to be 1 shoted by the Ultra mary sue... well you better think twice before doing that ¬¬ Feel free to try
Technically we could have up to 5 Avatars on the battlefield (1 for each craftworld) Obviously any more would be lore breaking, but maybe having the amount of avatars allowed proportionate to the Eldar playerbase would be a better start (but then we could have less depending on the proportion!) But would that essentially be fair on the other factions? There's not much I can imagine they could throw at one Avatar, let alone if the 5 were involved in one battle... Major balancing issue there That then goes to the point as to how would they be chosen? Choosing them from the war council is a good idea, but what if a councillor is not the best player in terms of fighting, but is a strategist and can make the right calls? Would they then go to the top 5 players in terms of kills/deaths? That would prevent a high amount of the player base from ever getting to play as the Avatar, which is essentially saying - you suck at the game, you can't have the shiny toys. Maybe a better alternative would be to give it to the top 5 contributors? Still - almost the same issue, "Oh, you missed X battle on Y day at Z time? Sorry, you can't play the Avatar because you were at work" (may be exaggerating here, but you get the point) Furthermore, if we couldn't have an Avatar on the battlefield, I'd rather not see them at all - it'd be highly pointless (close combat elite unit used to inspire your allies in the fight... is not allowed to be in the fight?) Avatar as an AI... whilst that "could" work better (less issues on who gets it), let's face it.. AI's will always be predictable and beatable by decent players, even if it was buffed to astronomical heights, it'd probably be slow and kited to hell and back, so it wouldn't make the Avatar the unit it deserves to be. Allowing it for the strikeforces... this could work - give each strikeforce a special resource. They have to reach it within X time and then choose among themselves who gets to use it? Gives dedicated groups a reward for playing well and being coordinated, AND will add more fear among the enemy when they see a strikeforce who are renown for performing well. (assuming theres some kind of tag to show them) Feel free to rip this to shreds, I want to be able to debate this issue - as lore-wise it is kind of a big deal for Eldar... major war going on... Why wouldn't the Avatars be involved??? But for gameplay, how can it be done without screwing up balance/upsetting players who can't play the avatar (and there most likely will be those who cry about it if they don't get to be the Avatar when they want to be, it's unavoidable) TL;DR: Read it you lazy mon'keigh (blah blah how do we balance it? blah blah)
I now officially murdilate you, take that, anyway an avatar would most likely be like a walking target, and he has a meltagun for a ranged attack so they should be able to keep away, making him faster than a normally walking unit makes sense of course, maybe making his walk speed sprint speed, but I think his attack speed would be only decent, his range would be short, and if you're that close you deserve to die, he would have to be focus fired with range in order to kill him which means if you're shooting him you're NOT shooting other eldar, I personally think of him as just a super wraithlord, greater daemons too
I think that each craftworld gets an avatar as per the lore. The option to become the avatar would only be available in the biggest battles and only to the person that is playing the best in that specific battle. No more then one avatar for big battles.
Ok, may I ask where you saw/heard of him having a meltagun? Or do you just not know his only weapon is the Wailing Doom?
Sorry, I don't really look at the codex's, but I'll try and look it up, so I can be more informed about basically the only faction I like. Sorry if I came across wrong.
I like this idea, but it might be more balanced as an AI. My only concerns over making it player controlled are how many people would be fighting over who gets to be the Avatar, and how it could be a huge waste of resources if the player chosen didn't have a clue what they were doing, or they get disconnected mid-transformation.
