Games Workshop: We know what our customers want better than they do... Even when they tell us they don't want it. On-Topic: Recently there's been a few doom sayers roaming forums and the like purporting that Age Of Sigma has already failed and that GW is losing a massive amount of customers and money to it, this is apparently the reason for plastic Horus Heresy arriving to draw players and money back. Considering that AoS has only really just been put out there and GW is still steaming ahead releasing new material and models I doubt this is the case why plastic HH is going to become a thing and exists.
Age of Sigmar was 2 years in the making so no... plastic HH models coming out have nothing to do with Sigmar. It has to do with the fact that 30k has become more and more popular and people have been asking for it... Apparently GW does listen. contrary to the doomsayers above. One thing I've learned from the Warhammer community is that they hate any change while complaining that they want change. 8th sucked until Sigmar came out and now 8th is amazing. Everyone wants new models and when they release massive beautiful detailed models that happen to be more expensive, everyone bitches. Everyone wanted them to progress the meta and story but when they do, everyone bitches.
Well an expansion isn't necessarily an improvement. Like I said, I'm waiting to hear about the lore and while the models are kinda nice looking, they're pretty 40kish, which is weird IMO. If they progress the story but it's done at a Matt Ward level, then why would we be happy that it was expanded at all? But yeah, doubt that HH decision has much to do with AoS. I don't think the hype train is done yet, but soon the novelty of it will be gone and it will be a matter of how well implemented it is, if the rules are too simple, etc.
AoS isn't an improvement... It's an entirely new game. WHFB was slowly dying and this was their way out before it disappeared completely. As for the models I was more referring to the End Times models. They are massive and gorgeous but of course the price went up for them and everyone complained.
Right, so how do we expand Warhammer Fantasy. We'll kill off the universe and create an entire new thing. When people ask for change, I'm pretty damn sure it's obvious they don't want the universe to progress to such a state where everything is gone. Progression doesn't necessarily mean New Universe. Plus, these models are really damn expensive. If that wasn't enough, some of the rules are a joke. Literally. Really... It can't get any- I don't know where you get Warhammer Fantasy was dying, perhaps when you compare it to 40K or something. Fantasy had a really nice feeling to it, all worked up after hard work. Now, we've progressed to Realm fighting, with Chaos currently backhanding everyone and only Sigmar remains with his army. Well shit. But sure, let them build it up. Give them time to progress it, so we'll perhaps have something as good/better as before. Fantasy took time to build up to it's state it Had before, so may this. Perhaps. But yes, give them time. As of now, I think it's more of a loss then a gain. The fact that the actual game right now has Little to No balance. When it comes to TT games, it's whoever has the most units. There's no caps, so lets hope your opponent didn't buy all those mega-packs. To win, buy loads of models. The models are very, very expensive. So, come on chap, cheer up. You just need to buy loads to win. But yes, it barely started. A negative start, but because they removed a world with alot of renown. I find it very funny to compare this, to my message on the 1st page. Even there, my first thought was to convert them to 40K Space Marines.
The marketing department of GW is not composed by monkeys, despite what most people believe. They realised they needed a great shake for the franchise, and this death of the old world was what they needed. From that initial crucial moment in the new lore, GW is probably going to take advantage in order gain as much visibility as possible. After this initial period, they will probably better develop the lore and franchise, giving it a more detailed scheme. And people who complain about the AoS will just further promote unintentionally the new game. Basically, I think this is a win win for GW in the end.
It's always a win for GW. Always. The fans are stern, they'll bite the stick. Even if it's so bad right now, they'll improve and the fans won't go anywhere.
