oh, i thought this was an mmorpg, where everyone has the freedom to be who they want to be. preventing people from being terminators and librarians is like not letting people be, for example, imperial guards oh yeah, them too
There has to be balance in the game, they've already stated in the Ork news letter that an Ork Nob will be 1 Ork in 20 on the battle field. So it follows that a Space Marine champion will also only be 1 in 10 -12. I'm not sure exactly how people will progress but when you start you will be an Ork boy, a generic Chaos marine, generic Space Marine or Eldar warrior. Maybe you will get to play a psyker or such, but they won't let a battle force turn out with 75% Terminators and 25% Librarians. It's not going to happen and would render those troops irrelevant.
in my head, each of the classes have a specific role in the battle field (even stranded marines.) my fantasy version of the terminators ,while do soak in most of the damage like sponges, can easily be outflanked by standard troops and psykers because they get no ranged weapons i doubt everyone would flock to a terminator class. from experience, i know the tank class is the most boring
I don't see terminator as a class, as far as lore is concerned any champion, Librarian, Chaplin, Apothecary or tech marine can equip terminator armour if they have the resources and permission from their Chapter. It's wargear not a class and can be equipped with everything from Stormhammers and Thundershields for close combat against tanks and Dreadnoughts, to lightning claws for melee or heavy weapons to create moving weapons platforms.
Lore wise such a marine would be the only one on the battle field and 2nd only to the force commander if not the force commander himself. This is the point I was making on the rarity of classes and equipment.
I would like to see Terminator armor reserved for high level characters only. I mean in the 40K universe having Terminator armor meant that you were battle hardened. Of course Terminator armor is only reserved for those who can achieve it in the actual 40K universe. If you look at the cannon all the races and classes have an advanced "gear" that the basic units can upgrade into. It would be a logical progression system just like in the actual 40K cannon.
It has already been stated that Terminator armor will be an unlock that will require resources to deploy and have a long cooldown. There isn't going to be a fixed numerical restriction on how many people can play with what gear/class. That will be restricted by what resources the players have, and what gear they have acquired the ability to use. That being said the old adage still holds true, "just because you can doesn't mean you should". Sometimes Powered armor is the better choice, and terminator armor may just get you(your team) killed.
Personally I'll be happy if the whole SM force turns out in Terminator armour, the Orkz will just need to spam lascannons and hang back out of assaultcannon range.
