Depending on how powerful they will make Terminator armor I would prefer one of these options: 1. Make it cost resources or a big cooldown so that we don't see people in termi armor non stop or 2. Only allow it to be deployed by the best players, and again with a cooldown or some significant cost and limit the number of those players. Kinda like a "leaderboard" where only the top X players are allowed to use it. Sure some people might get annoyed that only X number of players can use Terminator armor...but if they do make it quite a bit stronger then normal SM armor, it should be used wisely.
This is true. I agree with the SWG Jedi example save one important fact - Jedis in Star Wars have never been hard-capped by George Lucas in terms of numbers, certainly not like Terminator Armour and Chapter numbers have been dictated by Games Workshop. The setting, lore and canon is what makes 40k special to a lot of fans.
It was said they were practically extinct (yeah EU raped that) between pre and sequel during that time, there were complaints certainly, but if you are sitting there having fun you probably wont bitch that some devastators pauldron or helmet is the wrong color. If some librarians are their chapter color instead of blue is anyone really hurt by it?
We could sit here and argue semantics over the colour of pauldrons all day, but that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about Terminator Armour and we've pretty much exhausted the conversation. Side A believes in bending canon in favour of gameplay mechanics, Side B would prefer that didn't happen. I guess we'll wait and see where Behaviour Interactive stand on the issue! (although we're going to be waiting a while)
I think the Terminator armor is going to be a Class type. From what I've seen in the early illustration teasers for Space Marines we've seen: Tactical/Devastator, Assault, Apothecary, and Terminator. Though considering the secondary game references they're looking at for inspiration, the Terminator suit may be a rare sight on the battle field. I mean, last thin you want is a zerg of Terminators.
Define 'best'. Because this is PVP; you WILL get powergamers and twinks who use and abuse the system to the utmost, or people who farm kills or....whatever. Or those people I cannot stand, who pursue K/D all the time...despite potentially being in an Objective game-mode, where teamwork is better for everyone on the rest of team. Also, people are conveniently ignoring all the possible downsides of Terminator armour, such as; 1) Increased bulk and reduced speed. Canon writing does NOT state that Termie armour is as nimble as typical armour, far from it. 2) Priority target. Expect every big gun to angle your way by default 3) Not that useful in every situation. Termie armour is rather situational. Big open killing field? Better to have Devastators or Assault marines to close the gap. Hilly terrain? Tactical for flexibility or Assault for mobility. etc.
This is clearly a case where lore (to a certain extent) is going to have be bent slightly for the benefit of the game. You can't have 100% lore and make the game work. Apothecaries for example are equally rare but looks like the devs are including them in numbers as a class option.
They could make it to where you have to meet certain requirements to become "Veteran" status such as so many hours played and/or so many kills, and/or so many objectives completed, and/or so many awards or trophies from the commander for leadership or teamwork. Then, once you've achieved that, they can say that you need to accumulate a certain(high as shit) amount of loosely termed "points" in order to unlock termy armour. The armour is one use only, meaning it lasts for one mission. After that, it's gone and you have to do the same shit again, that is to say, reaccumulate the specified amount of "points" to do it again. Once the armour has been unlocked you can keep it as a reserve option for as long as you like until a mission where you feel that you'll need it but you no longer accumulate "points" until you've used the armour. The "points" can be earned from common things such as kills and objectives completed. Pretty much a more stringent version of xp. I just didn't want to use that term in case they'll use xp for regular shit. But that makes it so that only veterans get it which is fluff appropriate, but also keeps it from being overused and shit. There could also be a max of 100 suits to be used on one server at one time, in case the commander told ppl to save it up so that he/she could unleash 100 termies on one important objective at once.
