Hi sorry for this post I'm the kind of PC user where when it doesn't work I bash it , I have been having a problem with ET it is so random and sporadic I cant pin it down . Usually once a night my whole pc just loses power and shuts down , I can restart and carry on but it ahs to go right through checking windows and takes ages. I did have a build up of dust in there which I brushed and vacuumed away but that has not solved the issue. This issu only happens on ET , I'm guessing its maybe an overloading issue or heat issue? My card is a radeon r9 270 8 gig , it does run at 70 degrees or so which I'm guessing is a tad hot My other gues is faulty power supply but again its weird how its only ET that causes this issue Thanks in advance
I'm assuming 70 degrees Celcius. That is actually not bad, some cards work up to 80+ perfectly fine. But it does sound like a cooling issue. It could be your CPU, Graphics, Hard Drive, of your power supply. Is the Fan operating properly? Are you sure 70 degrees is the highest you've gotten to?
Definitely sounds like a hardware issue. Are you monitoring your CPU temps? Your GPU temp is fine at 70c. I would guess your CPU is getting hot and the PC is shutting down to prevent itself from burning up. Can you tell us your CPU model and what kind of idle heat you're getting on it?
As an owner of an R9 270 myself, I can say from experience that it will suffer from a bad PSU, but you'd see the PC shutting down more reproducably (i.e. as soon as it gets a bit of stress) than you currently are. I'll jump aboard the heat issue train, would be interesting to know the results of what @MungFuSensei asked of you.
I'd Check your PSU. That's usually the best place to start. Might be clogged up with dust, making the cooling not effective so its doing safety shut offs before it bursts into flames . Does it happen with other games?
Check your graphic drivers, update windows drivers, check your bios and maybe do a fail safe setting, check that the ram slots are all pushed in and plugged in properly, your cpu fan and your graphics card fans are working, try blowing out of your power supply if theres any dust in it, other than that id get a comp tech to have a look at it. hope this helps cheers
Ok the processor seems to be the issue its aAMD A10 6800k , it runs at 72 centigrade but when in game it pushes it up to 107 centigrade , ill pull it apart later and look at re pasting or getting a better unit
If your processor is idling at 72C, something is very wrong indeed. And yeah, most modern BIOS's will turn off the power if they detect the CPU passing a heat threshold, usually 100C or so since that's the temperature that water boils at. Hopefully it's just a case of having crappy stock thermal grease, put some decent paste on and an after-market heatsink and fan and that'll clear up.
You are all Heros + 10 kudos to you all So I ventured to the local PC shop bought the best paste , alcohol for me and the machine , air spray etc and set to work. £18 for all the bits. I managed to drop the heatsink that had the processor fused to it & yes you guessed it I had to manually bend back about 20 pins with tweezers whilst drinking rum. Well somehow I managed that , I cleaned off the charred heat sink with alcohol ( not the rum) , I even proved my wife wrong and the man that normally bashes things till they break or work fixed it. I'm now Idling around 50 degrees , hottest was 57 degrees that's a huge jump. Cheers guys , it has massively fixed game performance too
