But don't change which codex the units come from when they turn traitor, their race is still ''Imperial Guard'' (since, in 40k terms that is the name given to this group of warriors) because there isn't a race for ''traitor guard'' in the game. You're arguing semantics :)

Perhaps the chart could have been clearer on it, but they went with the races who had a codex.

Isnt the Lost and the Damned a faction for regular human traitors, and Ogryns and other suck traitorous ilk?

    Edited it, wrote too fast...

  3. the only reason it says "IG" in the allies matrix is because its using the IG codex. You can call your army whatever you want, but if there are IG units in it, then you're using the IG codex. Its simple really, renegade IG are no longer IG, BUT because they use the same units, they still use the IG codex. it doesn't matter who they answer to, it doesn't matter what their faction designation is, they are an IG army and use the IG codex… they just decided to paint their armor a different color, worship the chaos gods, and change their name.

Again, you can say the Codicies are the highest canon, but that's still ignoring that they could be stupid canon.

There is a lot of evidence of GW going against previously established lore when writing new information into their new Codexes. Change is all well and good. Add stuff, remove stuff that makes no sense. Adjust games rules that are dumb or imbalanced.

But writing a Codex that directly conflicts with an entire series of fluff novels (Imperial Fists)?

Invalidating the reason of an entire Chapter's existance (Black Templars)?

Making Space Marines do stupid stupid things (Blood Angels)?

Making a Chapter into Mary Sues (Ultramarines)?

There's canon, and then there's nonsense. Arguing "It's canon, so it's above complaints" is not the way to go about proving your points, especially for people who disagree with that canon.

  7. This is a warhammer 40,000 game haha not a fan fiction game. cannon is cannon, I'm sorry to disappoint, you can complain to GW about that

That's why I've been arguing the Chart is for tabletop gameplay, not for any kind of serious lore discussion.

First; a cannon is a big gun. Canon is story-related truths.

It's a WH40k game that will be based off of lore, not gameplay rules. It is not turn-based and does not use dice-rolls. Similarly, it will not use some codex-based arbitrary alliance system.

If, in lore, a Leman Russ Tank joins Chaos it would still be a Leman Russ. Leman Russ Tanks are an Imperial Guard unit, therefore it is an IG unit allied with Chaos. That is all that the chart is saying and is, as far as any evidence I can see, what the writer(s) intended by it.
