That's because nobody except the tau has a great idea how anything works - almost all the tech is made from aeon old blueprints by bureaucratic techpriests, right? It's hard to disseminate what's actually going on under the hood out of all the religious demagoguery. It's also kind of interesting how nobody but the tau likes to use AI in any kind of widespread way... there might be a good story in that in the forgotten history of the Imperium. I'm not really a lore scholar for SM, anybody know some fun stuff on this?
Well Bionic eyes definitely have more tactical information than even a space marine helmet. As said in "Chapter's Due" it can be nicely read on how Ventris' new eye works. And yeah laser weapons, too bad they do not work as we see in Sci-Fi they are rather invisible and only disable / explode electronics. I mean it's still neat but not as cool as laser weapons in Stargate or so xD But despite everything.... Lore-Breaking is allowed for a game to make it good therefore if there will be ANY form of marking or such thing then theoretical Orks shouldn't be able to do so except those with bionic parts as their normal eyes most likely could not create some kind of "blinking arrows" ^^ Anyway I hope to see something like in Battlefield, Global Agenda and I am not sure if there was something for Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer.... But I do not think so.... Except the Radar of course.
i don't see why this is such an issue. What is this thing on the sergeants shoulder? The sergeant marks the target, squad shoots it. it would be pretty odd if there was no way to designate targets. Maybe if the sergeant has to keep the "laser designator" on the target to keep it marked for his own squad rather than one quick button press. edit: and http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Marker_Light http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Ghostlight Now you shouldn't believe everything you read online, but these make sense
Perhaps you've misconstrued my questions as accusations. I'd truly like to know if players want to see COD/Battlefield type HUDs in Eternal Crusade, or something different.
After several tours in the middle east, I can tell you it's not always as cut and dry as you'd make it out to be my friend. Often times the view to a target or enemy position will be obstructed for your squad mates. Often enemy spot reps come down to a distance and direction of the enemy, along with a prominent land mark(North 200 meters, to the right side of the radio tower). This can easily be accomplished on voice comms in game, assuming we have a compass on our HUD. For "close ambush" Immediate Action Drills, you have a plain and simple "contact right!"or "contact front!". For those not on voice comms in a game, a similar system of marking a general area could be implemented for close in and distant targets. That system doesn't necessarily have to "lock on" to enemy players.
View: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EujM3UbtkE0 As much as I'm very much for "DoW is relic made canon" I think HUDS on power armor should resemble this in some manner
Any examples? The last CoD I played was CoD2, and the HUD was pretty clean. In BF, I cant recall what could be the problem. Any screenshot to enlight us?
I apologize. The statement was a generic hypothetical. I don't regard most video games to be in the least bit similar to actual service, and try to avoid comparisons when I can. My intent was to represent the highlight tool as a way to simulate more complex interpersonal interaction unavailable over a microphone. As for the argument for vague area markers, that'd be a perfectly fine way to do things - the heart of the idea is just to increase situational awareness and communication, so resolution isn't that important. But I'd argue that since video game targets are often in such great numbers/visible densities and appear very similar, that individual target tracking might be better when a squad leader wants a particular target eliminated.
lol... the reason why the Battlefield " spotting " isn't well known is 99% because no one really bothered to use it... because they are casual gamers who care little for teamwork. It was simply a matter of pressing the select button ( on PSN anyway... ) to mark an enemy target. Your teamates would be able to see a marker on where the enemy is located. The marker would disappear if they moved from the markers LOS. It had great advantages... and emulated actual communication to teamates, without the necessity. It would work well in Eternal Crusade... You can't have 20 people talking over each other. That's ridiculous.
AI is outlawed in the Imperium except for heavily controlled/restricted "machine spirits". This is due to the war with the Iron Men. Ever seen Dune? So... in the Rogue Trader, there area few excerpts from the novels. essentially, the 40K universe is the same universe as Dune was in (and Start Trek for that matter). Those took place roughly... 25th Millennium I believe (at work and don't have all my references). AI has been outlawed since then. As for the topic... I'm personally torn on it. I think/hope the combat will be too furious that you won't be able to say "Kill That guy!" but rather "Get those guys along that wall, prioritize special and heavy weapons!" granted, that last bit should be pretty standard. Individuals should be able to place a pointer, but it should be short-lived and stationary, not locked on a vehicle/enemy and only those in their squad should be able to see it. Squad leaders should be able to place squad objectives that their squad sees. Ideally, Strike commanders would be able to selectively enable these too, so they can see what their squad leaders are doing. Strike commanders should also be able to place objectives that squad leaders should be able to see. Again though, these shouldn't be picking out individuals or vehicles, but should be areas and/or avenues of attack.
