This looks more lore friendly. Maybe the territories they claim, will be changed to look more like Tyranid area. And setting charges or some poison to their reclamation pool to defeat them will be awesome. If this will be inside a Fortress (I think even Tyranids recognize the defensive bonus of Fortress), It will be really awesome to attack.

I'm hugely in favour of gradual changes to the environments. It would be awesome if territories annexed by the tyranids would slowly become more barren as the biomass is drawn out. I look forward to the same with the other races, though gradual is the key word for me here. Having spikes and eight-pointed stars pop on and off of things as bases switch hands is going to be a bit goofy I'm afraid. The longer a faction holds a position the more it should resemble their alignment and way of life, and there should be little animations to show the transition, as opposed to things just appearing.

I'm no game dev though, so I'm not sure if I'd be asking for a tonne here, haha.

who is going to sit there for 90 minutes watching an animation of a base changing faction?

You wouldn't, nor would it be that much of a spectacular event in itself as a singular event, but it would smoothen the transition between states, and a truly great game is what it is because of its commitment to the isolated realism of its universe and because of its attention to detail.

If the capture points tick over and suddenly there are a whole load of spikes everywhere/a whole load less spikes everywhere, that is just going to be something that disconnects me from the experience.

It would also be one of those things that can be looked at like a measure of success. A base that Chaos has tenaciously held against attackers for a long time, despite many attempts against them, would have become a gnarled and demonic place, and the players could revel in that, because it is a physical representation of their continued success.

Equally, taking that base for another faction and holding it long enough to rid it of the Chaos taint would be just as much of an achievement.

Also, I might have been unclear. I didn't mean the animation would take place gradually over, as you say, 90 minutes. That would probably be a waste of memory allocation. The animations would simply be, for example, the spikes growing out of a wall, or a fiery burst of warp energy as a demonic effigy manifests. The animation in itself would be relatively quick, but the overall progression of the aesthetic of a freshly conquered base to that of a long held one should be gradual. A series of transformations over a long period of time.

This would really only matter if you were in that base longer than the instanced match to fight over it took.

Well, I am looking further down the road than just the initial instanced matches of the early access. Taking and holding bases can often be a lengthy and gruelling exchange, to make sure you've fully routed the enemy, as I'm sure those who have played PS2 know.

But this change will be more noticeable when you will defend the fortress against enemy weak later.

I'm not really looking at anything that isn't planned for launch, for the most part.

In PS2, the match didn't end the moment time ran out because you successfully defended it or because the enemy captured and flipped the base, because in PS2 you didn't have matches, you had a persistent and constantly on-going conflict.

I've had hour+ battles over a Bio-Lab and other big bases before.

Because you would only be seeing that fortress when you went into the instanced match to defend it, they might as well just auto-change the base after it's been captured.

Who said you can't visit terittory that is under control by your faction when there is no enemy. But on other side you don't have any reason to do it.
