Do you like suppression in EC?

  1. I'm all for it! Spray all those bullets at me, babies!

  2. No, I don't want anything to get in the way of my fantastic shooting skill!

Makes the player have to advance with strategy for cover and line of sight. I think it'll be nice to have. Will let heavy weapons users have their own strategies as well to determine how much time before melee closes in to whoop them easily. The supression is welcome to counter and enrich rushing/stationary tactics.

  4. I think it's stupid to have your weapon jitteriness all over the place because of "suppression " mechanics. Probably just a way for them to sell us overpriced implants that will mitigate that effect.

Suppression mitigating effects would likely be found on a squad leader buff, Hero buff, character accessories, and class skill trees. All of those can be earned and/or purchased in-game via loot crate reward, EXP, vendor with unnamed token currency, and in the case of the Hero RP (Requisition Points). Though now I wonder if the Squad Leader Buff takes up load out points I'd figure a small amount if any.

Implants are a Planetside 2 thing.

I say that it'd be an interesting mechanic to include, since it adds a bit of strategy and encourages people to play roles that throw as much gunfire downrange as possible. With that being said, however, I agree to a point that has been said earlier regarding the current cross hairs in regards to accuracy. From what we've seen so far, the aiming system isn't as nearly as accurate as in an FPS, so adding suppression into the game might make that a bit much (barring sniper characters and such).

There's Battlefield's 'every bullet must be full of tear gas because holy **** I can't see anything' and then Red Orchestra 2's marginally better 'every time a bullet lands near me I flinch like I've been kicked in the nuts and also the world gets tinted sepia.'

As a machine gunner, RO2's system is good for dissuading enemies in cover from trying to get a cheeky potshot off at you since the constant stream of boolets violently disrupts enemy aiming. However, the pace and 'style' of RO2 as a shooter is very, very different to what I expect of EC. Playing as genetically enhanced super soldiers who run around with swords and can look around corners thanks to third-person perspective, I don't know if such a system would fit the game so well.

Sitting behind cover to avoid eating a faceful of lead is being suppressed, but suddenly losing your sensory ability and motor control in addition is a bit overkill.
  8. Suppression is great, I think - the more mechanics that take this game away from the simple "Shoot at enemy player model" and add more war-tactics, the better!

I'll speak from real world experience of being pinned down by crew serve weapons and rpg fire in an ambush:

In the first second (which stretched into forever) they opened up on my foot patrol with small arms, a pkc, and rpgs. I hit the dirt and was very disoriented by the loud sounds and the withering fire. I couldn't tell where the fire wqs coming from in our forward 90 degree arch because the ground we were on was farm land striated with wadis. However, after that first couple seconds my squad and I's training and adrenaline kicked in and the momentum of the battle swiftly swung the other way.

I really hope there isn't a punishing artificial suppression system because we are all playing superhuman, highly trained (orks are just highly enthusiastic) , well equiped, and highly dedicated soldiers. I think that my experience could be translated into gane terms as a momentary debuff. That'd still allow for tactics to be formed but I think an immunity for a short period of time should be granted or it could be abused in an un-fun way.

Like any status affect there would obviously need an immunity period. This is very common in RPG games that PvP and also brings up the possibility of stacking pins just to get a pin.
