    Hello fellow humans.

Soon there will be a very human like character sheet. Once I, a human, get off work, a typically human activity. Much like my fellow humans, I enjoy frolicking, consumption of unhealthy alimentary matter, unchecked procreation, and posting character sheets detailing approved fictional characters, who are human like myself.

Name: Nephila Colonia alias Sheila Samsa

Title: Colony (short for In The Penal Colony)

Age: Sentient for 12 years, walking the world for 2.

Equipment: Voodoo Charm of Human Shape, a trusty felling ax

    Affiliation: Criminal

Power: BODILY: Nephila Colonia isn't a singular person – she's actually hundreds of spiders telepathically attuned to each other and forming a hive mind with a humanoid shape.

Appearance: The individual spiders comprising Colony – some larger, some smaller, the smallest roughly the size of a thumb nail, the largest around 20 cm in diameter.

Under the effect of the charm, Colony appears as a roughly 5' 5” human woman with dark skin and short black hair. She is somewhat nondescript, due to how the charm works, and is neither hauntingly beautiful nor horrifyingly hideous, appears in good health and physical shape but is not overtly muscular or defined, and could likely pass as a somewhat effemiate male if she so desired. Probably the only particularly notable feature about her are her pupilless black eyes.

In an attempt to emulate her 'true' appearance, Colony always dresses in a light grey and black colour scheme, often with a loose, black rain jacket as the topmost layer. The charm itself is a small roughly human-shaped poppet that rests in her outer breast pocket and looks out at the world through its dead button eyes.

Backstory: The evolutionary origins of the N. colonia lie with the golden silk orb-weaver species native to Australia. On an island just off the Queensland coast, the biologist Dr. Marcus Samsa used the native species of non-poisonous arachnid to test a forced evolutionary agent – with curious success. The normally solitary organisms began bonding together – and form a hive mind rivalling human intelligence. In less than twenty years, they learned to communicate, and soon, demonstrated proven sentience.

Divergent enough to be labelled their own species of Nephila colonia for their odd tendency to stick together as one whole colony and work in tandem – truly altruistically – like a singular lifeform, the spider-Legion began looking up to Dr. Samsa as their creator. Meanwhile, Samsa, afraid to share his accomplishments but nevertheless proud of them, experimented with introducing them to human culture by reading them the works of Kafka which would inspire the colony and shape their world view. While they would acquire some cultural knowledge by themselves, and turn into quite literally ravenous readers, these early 'formative years' of German literature stuck with them.

But with all the odd interspecies bonding, the truth was that the biologist had gone quite insane from the decades of isolation, and would eventually find that introducing his 'creation' to the world at large was a good idea.

    It wasn't.

For all their sentience, the colony had a mind that was utterly alien to human morals and ethics. For all their intelligence, they could not rationalise predatory thinking away. After all, humans didn't try to understand cows, either.

Before they could return to their isolation, Dr. Samsa died of old age, and left the mass of spiders stranded within human society. Knowing they could not just return to their old home, and realising they were now free of the shackles imposed upon them by their great and loved all-father, the swarm vanished into the darkness to prey on the despondent, weak, and foolish, only occasionally pretending to be human, swarming under baggy clothes and masks. Over the following months, they found themselves gaining more and more of a personality. And with their personality also came a... compulsive need to hoard art, music, stories – everything connected to the expressions of humanity they were raised with.

Their fate took an odd turn when one day, they caught and fed upon a human who... wasn't. Immediately upon death, the man turned into some odd, different creature with a taste the spiders abhorred. But upon its dead body was a poppet that made the culturally ever-ravenous culture curious. Its inspection, however, yielded the odd result that the colony found themselves molding together into a shape that was most definitely human. The initial terror gave way to curiosity when they found that the effect was easily reversible, as long as they held on to this... effigy.

Finding it a new and curious way to assimilate human arts – the only thing about humans they really appreciated – the Colony crafted a fake identity, an approximation of 'superhumans' that were so common in stories of fiction and reports, and entered organised crime to further their hoard.
