To be honest that's up to the devs, not SM players complaining because they are not the only ones with OP toys, besides our melee classes have no gap closer or shields, we need to have something to compensate for that.
I see the banshee howl having a stagger/block breaker type of effect and the scorpions mandiblaster doing the same thing but with a little damage thrown in
I really think the Banshee mask should stun/stagger. For the amount of work these girls will have to do to get into melee combat alive will be tough enough, and the mask scream isn't just some ohh my eyes. Not to mention they will get wtfpwned by everyone else shooting them down while melee'ing enemy. "Their distinctive Banshee Masks contain psychosonic aplifiers that magnify their keening battle screams into mind-destroying shockwaves. This inflicts severe damage to the central nervous system of the Eldar warrior's foe, inspiring feeling of mortal terror and causing momentary paralysis." Does that sound anything like it might just blurr your vision? Even though i"m not a huge fan of Banshee's, they should at least give them the close combat threat they. Slightly off topic, in Dawn of War 2 you always had to keep them back or behind a cover unit to get them into combat or they literally just got annihilated trying to run up to an enemy and then as the one survivor reached them, you had to fall back to try and save the unit.
I will be happy if the banshees mask do something similar to this I've used them a lot in PS2 and it really lock people down, it will make easy for banshees to get to a side or behind their target and slice them to pieces with their power swords.
Can you still fire when that goes off? To me it looks like it would just mess up long range targetting. I haven't played enough of planetside to know.
I usually see scorpions as a stealthy offensive unit for indirect assaults whereas banshees are good for swift counter-offensive. They both have extra accessories which have plenty of options on how to be implemented, which is going to be interesting. Striking Scorpions would be a little more tanky and stealthy (weird combo) and banshees are faster and more agile. Their weapons would also mean that Striking Scorpions would be better against lightly armoured, tough units, while banshees can take out heavily armoured targets. I don't have much fear that the two will be too similar. I am more interested on how will a melee-warlock do compared to them.
How should mandiblasters behave? Pure damage ability? Or should it do less damage and inflict some kind of status effect?
I think you can shoot but you don't have precise control over your aim, and it's not just long range, you can't aim at close range, the easiest way to kill MAX as HA was to throw them a conc grenade, rocket launcher while you are closing the gap and then empty a shotgun magazine on their face.
That video is actually very old and doesn't accurately show how they work now. And yes you can still fire, but it has another effect beyond the screen blur, it drastically slows down your ability to aim. In a cqc fight if you conc an enemy you can easily sprint around to his side and he won't be able to turn quickly enough to fire back giving you 4/5 seconds of free time to lay into them. If this were to straight up be ported over to be the banshees scream, it'd more than make up for the lack of jump-pack. As for the mandiblasters, I'm in favour of the small damage + blockbreaker effect. edit:Ninja'd by joram >.>
I'm against it as well. Stuns in PvP games are simply not fun. There are plenty of status effects out there that can somehow disable a target while letting the player retain control.
