I have no idea why they wouldn't do it this way. It sucks pretty bad when games are only lasting like 4-5 minutes cause the campaign team steamrolls the newbies. At least having 2 faction campaign would get veterans to play on both sides -_-
What about this, have a campaign for one faction at a time but lessen the rewards and amount of matches needed to win. Maybe even have it so that campaigns only last until the campaign bar is filled not for over a week. It will encourage players to try out the "faction of the week" but it won't be bogged down for as long. Players can still have faction loyalty but since the rewards will be lowered and they happen more often, playing the other factions aren't a requirement(even though they aren't now since it's only REQ and RTC for that specific faction).
Assuming the point was to gather data, reducing time significantly for few faction would affect the outcome and thus data would be unreliable. The same applies to goals, if suddenly less ppl decide to play either faction because they have carrot dangling elsewhere then data is unreliable.
Im pretty sure it hurts player retention. New players don't have any involvement in the campaign, so all the premium players are on the campaign faction, making them insanely stronger than any other faction. New players, generally unaware of what is going on, either get "lucky" and want to play the campaign faction... in which case they face incredibly long unexplained queue times... or play the other factions and get destroyed by more experienced players and team imbalance. Sure a smart person might ask the question as to why the world map is so skewed to one faction, but i'd hate to think of the players that just assume this is because of atrocious faction balance. New players joining this week might just think that the developers are terrible at balance and are openly biased to Chaos. This is not a good first impression to make. On top of that, a few days of playing anything other than the campaign faction is an utter grind. Even with high individual performance, the overall skill and awareness of Chaos teams is far higher this week. It's irritating to lose game after game after game because their team is actually awake. I'm surprised the Ork week wasn't lesson enough not to continue, but then they are the ones with the metrics. I can only hope that they have looked at the metrics and made the educated decision to continue rather than just thoughtlessly starting another.
That's not info nor a fact, just an opinion The Faction Population on the other hand was shown times and times again in the dev streams
Stating that half of population is playing certain faction is not an opinion, thats stating info. Have dev streams actually showed active population or did they even tell what this data shows?? i havent watched so im asking, i also cant seem to find that and im not willing to watch all devstreams looking for it.
That's so insane though. These campaigns must be the worst possible feeling for a new player. I was on a chaos team last night that won Maggon in roughly *3* minutes! The space marines had like 10 kills between them. That's not settling newbies in at all!
