Dear Crusaders, hehe!! :) you have aimed your bolter on one of my sore spot. This is the perfect ''damn if you do and damn if you dont'' scenario. Steam, with over 75% of all digital games sales worldwide going through them has become a monopoly. They own that piece of the market and the charge accordingly. What Pysctooth was saying is correct except that the rate steam charges ALL studio with NO exception is 30% of ALL revenues including micro-transactions for the LIFETIME of the player. That is VERY expensive. The worst is that they ROCK, their payments system is great and their API (that all game need to integrate before going on Steam) is really well made but..... the actual REAL issue is client ownership. Steam wants to own you and studio like us want it too. So, I have not yet my mind on this. Most likely (like I said I have not made my mind yet :) ) we will be on steam but we will probably wait 1 or 2 months after launch to save the big chunk of the 30%. Of course when we will launch our Pre-Order Founder programs Next Year (yep, that is an exclusive info you are getting here lol) we will not do it on steam either but on our own site.

As soon as we make our final decision I will let you know!

    Thanks

That is excelent news Miguel, I think all devs think the same way as you, they don't want to give in such a big percentage to steam but they are also aware at how useful steam has become.

I'm sorry but if I can choose the steam option then I'm going for it seeing that i have all my games there and I like to have all my games together in one place, it's also alot easier for me to manage my steam wallet.

    If not, I'm still purhasing.

yes steam is a monopoly, but help a lot the digital delivery and the f2p side of the game, and also the new steam machine can be a great chanche.
remember to advise us some month earlier so we can prepare the money.

We will not have boxes for sales. All will be digital directly from our site and I am working on a deal for payments to allow you Crusaders ALL possible option to pay including mobile.

Yep, same for me. I LOVE Steam as a player since they save me money and time but as a Studio..... well they cost me more money and time LOL!!!

2 years in gaming is far, so I will wait and see... maybe Steam will have a competitor by then who will make Steam be more flexible and afordable. Who Knows?
  9. Steam is nice and handy I'll agree. But I think EC would be better off with it's own platform rather than steam.
As said before, steam is vulnerable and not safe at all, it is so easy to get information etc on anyone.

I personally think steam should be a big no no, as if EC is it's own platform then more than likely (I'm not saying this won't happen) 40k will be drawn directly to it and search for it, however if it is on steam, then it is attracting the attention of 40k fans, and then all the 'muppets' that follow because its free to try out.

I think it best to play a game, where most if not all the players feel the same and want the best out of the game, they don't want random steam users coming on, with bad names and bad language to upset other players, which happens all to often with games on steam.

    Well theres my view. Waaaghhh!!!
  10. I truly think that is the wisest thing to do, make the game available on steam at a certain point after the launch. It means that the game will receive an extra boast via steam but also have a huge number of players who bought direct from the studio. Thats good business.
