I think 360 minimap 3-d spotting in general should not be a standard component. Its a very powerful tool and can be added, but I think it should be spun into a part of progression or a class speciatly unlock (Leadership traits, and scouts.) In the case of Sci-fi 3-d spotting is fairly simple to justify. Quick example a Space Marine Sergeant with an Auspex can detect enemies in proximity and relay it via helmet uplinks for his squad. Everyone but the Orks has such technology and I bet even Mekboyz can replicate the tech. That said, just tether this fairly common mechanic into specialty classes and abilities to help reduce the 24/7 spotting that occurs in largescale shooters. This would also make scouts and leaders that much more useful by updating the maps by spotting. Still for stealthers they should have safeguards against spotting, and in the unfortunate event they add in invisibility they should make it less "invisible" than the Infiltrators are in PS2 although the cooldown is ok.
I heavily disagree, if there is going to be invisibility like stealth then there is going to be spotting or the system is broken, no spotting then you can rely on terrain and shaded camouflage. To be honest, equipment that stealths you in 40k is as common as scanners, heat signature detection and EMPs that will short out stealth equipment. Everything that exists in the game that gives someone a big advantage to make an easy kill must have a counter that renders that person vulnerable to being shredded by the enemy if his tactic fails in the wrong place.
I'm going to repeat my self just a little bit cause I just don't want to see any invisibility in the game. As much I do like the idea that players could have a cloaking device of someshort (at least the tau has one, can't remember who else had) the problem becomes the players even if the device is true to the lore. The pleyers in the internet tend to find ways to exploit the systems and it generaly breaks the game in some parts. As we speak of this I can already imagine players standings next to a good spot waiting for someone to encage their targets and after that they would launch their assault. Now a good way to do this is naturaly to scout the area but if the game mechanics allow people to stay hidden so that there is no possible way to find them then no, definetly not something that should be in the game. It a poor mechanic, too easy to exploid and people who want easy kills are the ones using it (and in my opinion they could be left out of the game f0r just trying to find ways to exploid games). So camoflauge, terrain use or what ever it is is something I am ok with, but when it comes to invisibility I will raise my voice to the end to say no.
Too many MMOs in PvP rely on the "stealth & chain stun" tactic and basically sour the game. I have no problem with stealth/camo to sneak through enemy lines to gain a tactical position from which to attack but no way in the world do I want to see the ability to run up to a unit without being detected and stun/attack them to death while they cannot move.
I REALLY hope they don't have stealth, the one thing I despise most in planetside 2 is infiltrators... they 1 shot you from miles away then when you close in to kill them they stealth off THEN they stealth around up close and uncloak behind you so you have no hope of turning and killing them before you die. There might be ways to balance it but I'd be much happier if they just didn't have it at all as any class that had stealth would need to be incredibly weak to make up for the ultra amazing powerful tool that is stealth.
Ask yourself why not everyone is playing infiltrators then, if they are so oh-powerful And why people actually win and prevail over infiltrators
I think it's just a learn to play problem. I've never had problems against stealthers even in those games that they are supposed to be op. I think if they will put stealth in game it will be balanced. I have faith in these devs =)
Yeah the problem is sorta L2P, but thats just the start of it. Problem with these stealth classes are anyone with a modicum of "skill" and experience with the stealth classes create a useless powergap between the stealthers and the non-stealthers. The argument of light armor never holds up when they can initiate combat and exit combat to re-enter when the scenario benefits them. Alot of the time stealthers will only be killed unceremoniously when they make a mistake and walk infront of someone, or refuse to restealth to reset combat in their favor (Staying in a direct shootout) Even all of that is sorta ok, but really when it comes down to it...for all the BS stealth classes always get...is it worth adding this mechanic (True invisibility)? IMO its not when there are more practical ways of going about it. Stealth can never be balanced unless you put them in very controlled conditions, which you cannot in such a massive setting. I would imagine a portion don't have that modicum of skill or experience and think the class sucks, a larger portion may dislike the playstyle and some probably think it is OP and just don't like being exploitive. I usually don't play stealthers because I dislike the playstyle of "sneakiness" or sniping or ganking (in fantasy). As for people winning over infiltrators its bound to happen sometimes for a few reasons such as splash damage killing them, mines, them running out of stealth juice at a bad time, them being bad by staying in a direct shootout for too long, people exploiting the low settings ghost silohuette to see stealthers more easily, and other reasons...but most of them are not from the class mechanics being balanced properly.
What is true invisibility ? Stealth like only break from damage or from players command ? What games use this kind of mechanic ? (MMO) Just asking for examples =)
A game like this should rely on the players skill to navigate the terrain. Invisibility coming from particular wargear choices as to coincide with the lore of 40k. Each race has its own background on various types of concealment gear, even if for the Orks they just have to pretend really hard that they are invisible. What ever the Devs decide to implement there will always be crowds of people standing up and demanding that the system is op. But hey, no body is perfect.
