Yet alot of new influx to the hobby was brought along by the novels. Like it or not, a lot of people prefer the lore over the rigidness of the TT rules. But i agree to a certain height that for the gameplaybalance it would make more sense to base it closer on the TT rules. Because who the hell would play a game where you cannot even score a kill as a Free player and you just function as amusement to the paying players.
A Terminator doesn't need cover, that's why they wear Terminator armor. They specialize in walking out in the open as literal killing machines, while bolter fire bounces harmlessly off them. Even most "cover" is weaker than their armor. That's like asking a tank to get behind cover. Its said that Terminator armor can survive a titan stepping on it. I really can't see any conceivable way an ork boy could ever kill a terminator, unless the Terminator just stood there while the ork boy shot him in the head over and over again at point blank range. Even then...
1. Tanks use cover all the time. A tank in the open is a dead tank. 2. Just have the ork boy walk up behind it and slap on an explosive charge strong enough to kill a dreadnought. Not like the terminator can turn fast enough to react anyway.
Just have the ork boy go invisible and sprout wings and fly too, they have as much chance of doing that as they do walking up behind a Terminator without being blown to green goo.
Oh boy, Internet Space Marine Defense Force (ISMDF) is in full action. Also, as Terminators act as miniature Dreadnoughts, a. k. a. miniature tanks, why not use anti-tank weapons against them? A melta bomb can do nasty things to pretty much anything.
It wouldn't be hard to sneak up behind a lone Terminator. Stay out of sight and wait until he passes you. Or, like Fireeye said, wait until he walks into the open and hit his face with an anti-tank weapon. Or use cover to your advantage. Terminators waddle like fat ducks, they aren't hard to outmanuver. And if it's assault Terminator then all the ork has to do is walk backwards and hold down the trigger.
I'm all for the 50/50 thing, if my Space marine has a 50/50 chance against Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka in the game. The whole balance in game mechanics is all well and good, but an ork boy beating a terminator 1v1? come on.. the line has to be drawn somewhere.
Staying true to the lore is a good thing. However, a small sacrifice from the lore department to improve gameplay and make it more fluid doesn't sound too bad to me. As long as I can do diz, I'm fine
