Staying True To Lore

Nah, newbies would play that role perfectly :D
  2. Sorry- an Ork will be about equivalent to a Space Marine. They'll have very different strengths and weaknesses, have different tactics and weaponry, and they'll feel very different from each other, but they'll have a fair shot against each other in battle.

Generally speaking, any player will have a fair chance (50/50) to kill any other player in the game.

The way you'll need to accomplish that is by maximizing your strengths and minimizing your weaknesses- so a free ork will have to approach an engagement very differently from a Chaos Raptor, for example- but 1 Ork can certainly kill 1 Space Marine.

We can't ask new players to become cannon fodder for the meat grinder- we have to guarantee everyone who plays a fun experience.

(Now, with that in mind, we want to recreate the feeling of the orks on the tabletop and in the lore- a rowdy mob, a horde of greenskins. We'll be looking into mechanics that allow orks to be competitive, but still feel orky. For example, maybe their vehicles are cheaper- or maybe their Waaagh! power encourages them to stick together in mobs.... we're evaluating.)

Your "lore" sources are probably written by some Matt %@&#.
6 Orkz may be true only if they are just some Ork Boyz, not some bigger guys.
And 8 Eldar??? For the love of Isha, it's possible only if they are some civilians, not even Guardians. One skilled Aspect Warrior may be more than a match for a spehss mahreen in combat and even kill more than one, but the Eldar need to fight smart, wisely choosing the time and place to strike - they are army of Specialists, so if the aspect is used along its purpose, they will strike so hard, that it will make up for a great supper for the Emprah.
If 8 Banshees take a long run out in the open towards the positioned squad of Devastators, they will hardly make it at all. If they appear within a charge distance, they may slaughter even Terminators.

Ever play Red Orchestra 2 or Rising Storm? As the Soviets if you sprint in a group of five or more people they will start to battle cry which suppresses the enemy. As the Japanese when you sprint and charge your bayonet or sword you will go into banzai mode and the more people in banzai mode around you the bigger the suppression affect to the enemy and there is also a health bonus for you as the attacker.

Maybe the orks should be able to run faster when in Waaagh! mode? In the ork codex the Waaagh! ork special rule grants all friendly Ork infantry units the fleet of foot rule. Fleet of foot is fleet in the most recent edition of the rules. Fleet means a unit composed of models with this special rule can re-roll one or more of the dice when determining Run moves and charge ranges. I think Waaagh! also grants ork fighta jets extra shots as well.

Don't forget, Orks have the special rules Mob Rule! and Furious Charge which should also be taken into account when thinking about Waaagh!

Exactly! Not only would that make sense lore wise, it is also a table top must for the orkz! It would fit in with what Lumpy was talking about with how each race/class handles itself in certain situations.

50/50 to kill any other sounds a bit harsh.. I like the idea, but it may have too many meanings..
I was hoping that it will be more like combining classes to achieve maximum result, like in TT..
But 50/50 thing makes me think that classes would be more about preferred playstyle..
Still, I like that it means some skill required to win with these chances.

What is not so clear, is a 50/50 duel OrkBoy VS Terminator....

I got my ork codex and rule book on standby for just this sort of situation.

Well an ork is FAR faster than a slow moving terminator and all it takes is a well placed shot or axe. Remember. movement and speed actually is a factor now. However, we will just have to wait and see the footage they are going to release eventually to get a feel for what he is talking about.
  10. Just have the Waaagh! affect their performance in an Orky way. For example if you roam with 8 players all on buggies or in a battle wagon and it's painted red...well you know the rest :).
