The state of this weapon is a mystery to me. It serves zero purpose and is not competitive on any level with any other weapon in the game. 1. You cant shoot it until it charges up which takes a consistent 3 seconds 2. You cant charge it up without a target 3. The target MUST be kept in the crosshairs or the charge process gets reset 4. Its a big freaking laser pointer letting anyone else know you are aiming at them 5. Someone with this weapon is completely worthless for doing ANYTHING else other than killing armored targets So this weapon pretty much is an Anti Armor weapon (which it should be). So WHY then, is it less effective at killing Armored targets than Meltas, Plasma Cannons, Power Fists, Melta Bombs, etc? Im not just talking a little less effective. Its significantly less effective. Taking typically around 10 shots to kill a rhino. When you factor in the #1-3 above, the time it takes to get off 10 shots on a moving armored target isnt practical and often times impossible. "So use it to kill parked rhinos that people are using for respawn" Ok, that makes sense. Its a bit disappointing, but sensible. Aside from one major thing. All those other weapons I listed, are STILL much better and efficient at killing a parked rhino than the lascannon. Not only that, all those other weapons have at least SOME practical use for other things too. So not only is the lascannon the WORST option for anti-armor, its also 99% worthless for doing anything else. You MIGHT get lucky and kill someone standing afk at 300m. It is by far the most worthless weapon in the game. It feels like the devs threw it in last minute or something just so that it was there since its a pretty well known weapon in the 40k universe. If this weapon is going to be both lore accurate and competitively balanced in this game, with the HUGE and ridiculous restrictions that have been placed on it, some big changes are needed: - Reduce the charge time by at least 33% - Increase the damage vs vehicles to a point where it can kill a vehicle in about 4 shots. (thats still 8-10 seconds with the reduced charge time) - Remove the freaking laser pointer. This makes ZERO sense. The weapon has so many negatives and ZERO positive things to balance it out. This needs to be improved.
You do realize its anti tank weapon, right? Because for whatever silly reason you seem to think its a sniper rifle, which its not and never will be, because anti tank guns are not sniper rifles. Lore ends where balance starts, so you can stuck the lore and TT arguments back where the sun doesn't shine. Oh, and it kills vehicles in 3-4 shots. Shoot at rear armor. And boy oh boy, I do wonder why unlimited range, hitscan weapon seems like it have lower DPS then weapon that requires you to hump tanks exhaust pipe. Why would that be indeed.
Only really good way to take out Eldar vehicles atm. If you want a hand held anti tank weapon that serves another purpose, then no this isn't for you. If you want something that OBLITERATES enemy armor with a few solid shots? Then this works.
It's a long-ranged anti-armor weapon. Its main advantage is that you can fire it from another end of the map. Make it kill faster, and vehicles become even more weak, because your vehicle will be destroyed before you can find Lascannon player's position. It was also in the game since the beginning, and it went through several iterations. The reason it needs a target and has a laser pointer is because people used it as a sniper rifle before those limitations were implemented. Melta damage should also be nerfed in this patch, which will be an indirect buff to Lascannon.
Lets look at my original post: "5. Someone with this weapon is completely worthless for doing ANYTHING else other than killing armored targets" "So this weapon pretty much is an Anti Armor weapon (which it should be)." "- Increase the damage vs vehicles to a point where it can kill a vehicle in about 4 shots. (thats still 8-10 seconds with the reduced charge time)" I dont think i was cryptic in my understanding that this was an Anti-Armor weapon. IE: vs vehicles and other hardpoints like turrets. My joke about taking out an afk player at 300m was just that. A joke. As opposed to other Anti-Armor weapons that are killing vehicles in under 5 seconds currently? Not to mention most maps have so many obstacles and terrain elevation differences that shooting across the entire map simple isnt possible. Yes, the lascannon shoots farther than a melta, but you rarely, if ever, get the chance to get more than 2-3 shots off before your target is out of view. (and a group of enemies swarm to your position to take you out as an easy kill) No good player stands there while a laser is aimed right at them. Hell, not even many bad players do. Im not wanting this weapon to be a sniper rifle. Im wanting it to be a good, competitive weapon vs anti-armor, as it should be. Shooting the back drops the number of shots down from about 10, to about 7. Still doesnt fix the problem. Not to mention, positioning to be able TO shoot the rear of a vehicle often requires getting close enough that the benefit of having huge range, is completely null. Everyone defending this weapon... if it was as good as its being implied, more people would use it. Its one of the least used weapons in the game.
Why? It works for that. It is not INTENDED to be a close quarters weapon. Even on TT it was NEVER supposed to be a close combat weapon. It is long range anti-armor support, a role at which it excels in game currently when used properly. If you want a weapon that does something else, then choose something else. We can hope for missile launchers at some point. Maybe with the ability to switch between frag and krak missiles. For now? Lascannon is king in its niche.
The Lazcannon has a 2 second charge time, while the Master Crafted Lazcannon has a 1.6 second charge time. This weapon is highly effective at killing vehicles. If you are the only one on your team using it to kill the vehicles yes it takes a little bit. If there are about 8 of you on a Fortress wall all firing at a siege tank, it dies before you can get into range and take a gate down. So it is a highly useful weapon, as we do not have to get close or send a nice glowing white ball across a screen for all to see where you are at.
Are you even playing the Eternal Crusade? Plasma cannons, autocannons, the reaper launcher and whatever those one-hit-kill ork weapons are, all make your arguments completely obsolete.
