Indeed, that is a difference. In this whole long discussion, you have managed to spot A Difference between the two games. Worth noting that I never held the opinion that they were the same game, only that those elements I pointed out worked the exact same. In that sense, your claim that I am "wrong" is a half-truth, as every part of the system I've talked about is true. If you wanted to prove they are not the same game you could also bring up that the mechanics for capturing points is different, but that's not the point, so... So yes, there's a difference. But we've had to look long, hard and deep to find it. Hardly worth the entire shitstorm the community stirs up, is it? Especially as it has no point. We've been told this is the only possible way to do it. Are we silly enough to demand the impossible? And if not, what's all the whining about? To let the devs know we're not letting them "get away with it"? As if they're not the ones most disappointed by the fact that the product they're pouring blood, sweat and tears into will take longer to reach the point they have in mind for it than anticipated. As if they're not investing much more of themselves into it than whatever measly sum (in the grand scope of things) we have pledged. Video games are a meaningless time sink by default, but I think loud cries of outrage when a developer refuses to deliver that which time and experience have (sadly) proven to be beyond reach (even when it was honestly thought within reach for a time) must be a new low point in the annals of "time well spent".
yeah and to be honest its a rather pathetic system ... who is going to want to help another faction capture or hold anything when there no reward for their faction in doing so? LSM - "hey eldar dudes, could you help us fight off the CSM from this outpost/stronghold .. you wont get anything in return except making us stronger, but youll help out for the fun of it wont you?" Eldar - "go $@#% yourselves mon'keigh" LSM - "hey Orkz, how about a .." Ork - "Waaaaagh" LSM - "yes lol but could you come here and help us to push back the..." Ork - "Waaaaaagh!!" LSM - "oh come on stop RP'ing and give us a..." Ork - "get zogged humie"
and theres this .. we know from what the Devs have said that if 2 factions team up against a third then the one who initiated the battle gets the reward, but we dont know if FF vs Enemy fire rules gets changed during such a match, or even if only the initiator faction can capture points, now if only they can capture/flip a point then the other faction is basically meat-shields and cannon-fodder since all they can do is kill/die ... they cant capture a point after all, and if they can capture/flip points then why should the system fail to take into account the possibilty that an ally could in theory capture all points in the match but yet not be able to win the capture for their faction?, but can they kill everyone from the other factions and basically backstab an attacking/defending force by teaming up with them and then prevent them from managing to win the match by killing them everytime they try to flip a point? EDIT basically the proposed ally system is far too messy or unrewarding for it to succeed, and the original concept of every faction for itself seems to be far more workable
I didn't even have to look long, hard and deep at all, just point out the short, easy and shallow found point I made, showing your statement of 'differing only in size' and 'functionally the same as regions in E"C", just bigger" is wrong. Personal gratification/stress-relief/etc. etc are hardly meaningless. Side-Note: Why do you keep typing "EW"? The Game is Eternal Crusade, not Eternal Warfare/War/Warhammer/Whatever.
eh it suck really that PS2 are the only people with the tech to make such massive open worlds for shooters, but then again its 2+ years and they still haven't solved there optimization problems, so i'm not sure if anyone really wants to buy the tech behind it...not that there selling it.
logic? i'm talking about fact, about the limit thst the server tecnology can reach. ps2 have surpassed pikko server. http://planetsidebattles.org/about/RecordSmash is a certified record. so eternal crusade server tech how many years need for reach the same level? at some point EC tecnology will reach a capacity superior than the number of players but probally still inferior to others game. and in paricular when they think to add 4 way battle? there is nothing in the plan about that
All i read was ''We don't have enough money to support the tech architecture, we'll see how much crap we can sell and push in the first year before we decide to invest any more money into a true 40K MMO for you guys''. God this industry sucks.
