?

Does it blend?

  1. Yeah, that's a juicy blend of mildly awesome person-to-person interaction package coming our way

  2. Yeah, I'm totally into juicy person-to-person interaction, even though it's a bit later

At this point, the game doesn't look any more like Space Marines multiplay any more, the melee combat alone is greatly different. That doesn't mention what they have in store: Siege, Eldar and Ork gameplay, Nids..etc...

There are other types of reward other than some achievements and trophies to display. Exp for progression, weapons, and things like Banners, Purity Seal will still be in game. Warbozz head isn't the only thing that matters to players. Some care for aesthetic things like that, others care about the actual progress on their character. Ship is the coolest idea, but does not necessarily makes most sense, because SMs and other factions have already landed on the surface, they will want to have HQs on the surface, not the space ships. Also taking development into consideration, to meet deadline and budget, HQs on surface make more sense at this stage of the game.

Every "Maybe" things like ships have always been on "Maybe" list, any of essential things like: Nids, 4 faction war, 1000 players battle, territories control..etc... still stand. So no, they didn't scrap everything unique like you said. If you buy into the game expecting ships to be a thing, then you have overstretched your expectation. And talking about the whole socializing feature vs gameplay feature, I'll give you 1 example. GTA V, they have socializing feature such as party, apartments that you can invite your friends in, but they didn't have the core gameplay feature they promised which is Heist, so only 1 year in and everyone was getting bored of the game even though the socializing feature was there.

Like I said, core gameplay first, any cool aesthetic stuffs (personal quarters, ships..etc..) that don't necessarily enhance the core gameplay at the moment can wait till later.
  2. Oh believe me I'm on your side here, the other side has sleepy lol. And I agree with most of your sentiments. Starting off in a battle barge, or having the ability to travel to your chapter or guild battle barge, I liked the idea then, I like it now. I thought it would be a cool way to get us into the game. I also think that it was a half hearted promise thrown at us to entice us into the game. Because by the time they were talking about early access the concept of starting in your battle barge had disappeared. So it wasn't something for early access, and it doesn't look like something for founders access either, but finished product? Hell yea they should have a battle barge.

  3. WAR had a war room that only guild leaders and guild officers could access in the capital city. Both were reasonably pretty...and both were always utterly deserted. Lack of social interaction wasn't the reason WAR failed - many people I know across MMOs mention that WAR and DAOC had two of the best and most memorable in-game and rival communities; partly because everything was both competitive vs the enemy and reliant on mutual co-operation with your allies. WAR failed because the class balance was borked and the endgame was thunderously repetitive and rigged heavily towards the side with greater numbers.

EVE ran successfully for a long time without personalised quarters and similar shiny features - as it happens the Incarna addition that put them in there triggered monoclegate, one of (if not the) largest player protests ever seen in an MMO, and was about as much of a PR disaster as you could wish for. Aside from the specific monoclegate issues around pricing of shinies and the concerns of P2W, a common complaint was that Incarna was all about pointless shinies with no major gameplay elements, and a waste of an update. When originally given the option to turn it on or off, quite a large number of players turned it off until it was later made mandatory.

SWTOR had (very limited) personalisable ships from launch, and aside from visiting others to see what they looked like compared to your own, these were next to never used for social interactions. This didn't stop the subscriber haemorrhage, which was only lifted by introducing F2P mechanics and steady series of content expansions. Personalisable quarters was, IIRC, the fourth or fifth of these - introduced after the game had made a full hospital recovery.

It would be rude of me to draw conclusions about the efficacy of personalised quarters as a social tool or method of ensuring continued interest based on the examples above when faced with someone with much greater expertise in game design, so I'll opt for saying "I think it might be a bit more complicated than that..."

Other then a 2 new races and different animations can you tell me how it is different then the SM muliplayer? Sure siege looks neat but its nothing new to MMOs most free to play MMOs like Tera have the same thing.

And I agree that personal trophies and marks of achievement like purity seals and skulls should be there but its not just trophies I can be where you change your load out, personalize to your tastes (Im gunna viking the f**k out of mine if included) they said you could get pets for your room like a pet squig you can get in the pioneer pack but in the room. It gives the player something to spend points on once they kitted out there warrior or are as vain as many 40k players are. Also they do not seem to have a deadline just a budget which at the start even when they have all the fun extras in was "Already funded" without even needing to "Crowd fund". If budget is the issue they can use some of the crowd funds to make sure the game has some meat on the bones.

And the Nids are not Core game-play they are an extra as they said the game is PvP so they can still remove that just as easily as all the other extras for the same reasons. And was it so must to ask for a game they said was going to be amazing and fun to actually be that instead of a slightly upgraded version of a previous game (SM)? And if there is no social feature it really would be SM and why bother with the MMO part at all and just have bots? If aesthetic make no difference then play the original Doom it doesnt have much either do distract you from gameplay

Even if they just had the personalized room in the background of the load-out screen instead of and interact able room would be better then nothing.
A SF would be nothing but a chat channel without a hall/battlecrusier to work together to build and upgrade and have some form of command to bring war to the game and not just mindlessly running at pointless directions.
Like I said otherwise we just paid for SM with 2 more races and bigger maps.

Well, it seems that I haven't been able to get through to you, maybe you should read Kanthric post above for a clearer explanation why we think Ship is good but not necessarily a must have.
  7. Ulfhednir ulfhednir Prefectus

Like I said it doesnt have to be a ship but it brings something to the game that makes it fun, social and interesting. But if this game focus's only on the game-play and for goes the meat on the bone then I'm going to get a refund and go back to SM and I'm sure many others will too.
I agree the main focus should be on getting the core ASAP and so it can be tested and balanced. But they need to have more then just that before release or why bother when its just another shooter?

I said there would be safe zones for you to socialize, didn't I? But you keep insisting on ships because they're cooler. Also, I don't know about you, but I bought into this game because of the massive warfare and 4 faction wars. I wouldn't go back to Space Marines because it can't offer any of that, it's just a bare bone 8v8 CoD clone with 3rd person view and hack'n'slash melee., no more, no less.

And people don't play game to find social interactions, foremost, they play because the gameplay is fun, social interaction is just the icing on top. Some MMOs (Dota2, Warthunder, Hearthstone, etc...) offer very basic tools for social interaction or none at all, but they're still very great games and a lot of people play them, even get addicted. I barely get into chat while I play Warthunder but 4 years in and I haven't got bored of it, the same goes for Dota 2.

Almost every game has a safe zone and the only socialization is people trying to sell stuff or between people who already know each other there is no mass in the massive multiplayer in them its just small groups of people. If you really wanted massive battles you would want people to be encouraged into larger SFs for large scale co-ordinated battles instead of small bands of real life friends running around in small parties (again like SM). Best you would get is a skirmish of afew squads. You need to give players obvious incentives and bonuses to form large SF's with new people because they have a kick ass SF's or are fun. Because contrary to what more anti-social gamers beliefs most people even gamers enjoy socializing and you need to cater to that. I know that you just want the plain cake with no icing budget brand and you are dead set on it so I dont know if I should bother but I'm trying to make this game fun for everyone not just plain cake people. If you dont like the idea of larger social SF's then only use the "base of operations" for changing your load out, forming your squad and dropping into the warzone or dont use it at all and just solo with your friends.
As I said it doesnt have to be a ship although as Kanthric said it is the best option but I'm open to other ideas on that.
I love a big battle of mayhem and destruction that is why you need to encourage bigger SF's. The command system on BF2 and BF2142 was basic enough and was a great system and would add to the elite future soldier experance.
I found Warthunder average and hate Dota2 and LoL
  10. Sleepylion Sleepylion Well-Known Member

Warthunder average? Hate Dota 2 and LoL? Then that's just your personal taste, not that those game are bad. Ships, like I said multiple times, is the coolest idea, not the best one, it's only the best if it can offer more than it costs. Given the time and resources needed to make it, the safe zone stronghold offers the very same thing for less. PS2 offers very basic social interactions too (no personal quarter, no trophies room) and there are many large outfits around.

You have a long way to go in game industry o_O. You don't judge a game based on your personal taste, you may not play it, but when it comes to criticism, it's down to purely if it's good or not. I don't like LoL, but I can't say it's a bad game. I don't like WoW, but I can't say its gameplay is bad and there is no creativity in it. ;)
