"Well hearing that I'm now quite sure I'd be a nice place to visit. A planet that people actually know about and haven't really bothered to fight over is getting to be a pretty rare thing these days. " The Jedi laughed. Truth be told, Cyrus really wasn't sure how to add to that. It wasn't like his community on Talus needed any sort of explaining to Nex, the little guy had lived enough of his life off Kushibah to have an understanding of how most human collectives worked.

"Well I think it's safe to say you have me at a bit of a loss now. Let's see...aside from the few times I'd been off Talus with my dad before he up and left, leaving to be trained at Jedi Temple was definitely the longest I've ever been gone. In fact, I was actually kind of angry when my future master first told me about the whole Force sensitivity thing. It was just...well I'd been going around to any planet I could with any sort of New Republic affiliation trying to get the story of how the old man kicked it and of course no one really tells a snot-nosed kid anything." Cyrus just shook his head.

"Then after it's all done, some strange guy that smelled a bit too much like burning metal shows up and tells you that you've got the potential to be something you'd only heard about in stories from the elders. My master said that it was my own choice whether to stay or go...but I don't think it really was. I mean how would I have been able to look my mother in the eyes and tell her I'd made the selfish choice when I'd been given a chance that an almost statistically insignificant number of sentient beings ever get? She'd have yelled my ear off and thrown me to Yavin given the chance."

Now it was Cyrus' turn to abruptly pause, realizing he'd been perhaps talking the Kushiban's ears off, laughing. "Sorry...got into a bit of a ramble. Not sure what else to say really. I'm not really that interesting as a person, at least in my opinion."

"Well, you're an interesting person in my opinion Cyrus." Nex said, listening intently to what Cyrus was saying, "I'm sure you can think of something intriguing to mention. I'm all ears...that wasn't even a joke, have you seen these things?" He grabbed his ears and shook them lightly before letting them go and having them droop back down.

He was surprised to hear that Cyrus's father went missing too when he was young. The only thing was that Cyrus seemed convinced that he left them on purpose, and that he was already dead. He hadn't realized how similar the two of them were all this time. Both of them were farmers, they both had younger siblings around the age of 15 or so. They both had father's that disappeared that they then went about the Galaxy trying to find. And they both ended up being informed of their force sensitivity through someone else that knew more about them then they did.

"How are you so sure your father is dead...or that he left you on purpose? Did he tell you where he was going, or did he just dissapear one day?" he found himself asking Cyrus, not even thinking what he was saying, "I don't know your father so I don't know whether he was the sort of man too...just leave like that. Stop me if I'm edging too close to uncomfortable territory here, I just...want to make sense of it."

"Nah don't worry about hurting my feelings or anything, Nex. It's completely okay. He wasn't really around all that much, always said work kept him away. For years we thought he was a ship captain, turns out he'd been with the Rebellion from its very early days. Anyway, he'd be home about three months of the year or so. About the time I was ten or so was when he started taking me along on some of his runs." Cyrus scratched his head as if trying to make sure he was recalling his memory correctly.

The Jedi continued to walk along continuing his train of thought. "A few years later, must have been when I was sixteen or seventeen he didn't come back and we received no messages. Long story short, I eventually found out his route that time had been the Balmorra Run. Apparently it's a flight through a nebula that is inhabited by creatures larger than most starships. The Balmorran's had gotten their shipment so best I can figure he probably kicked it on the way back through the nebula."

He shrugged. "Wasn't just the type to up and leave. We knew what he was doing was dangerous so we got over it pretty quickly. Stuff like that happens, everyone you know is only in your life for a finite amount of time."

"Oh, I'm...sorry to hear that Cyrus." he half mumbled, his fur reflecting how bad he felt at the moment, "well, even if your father wasn't around that often, I'm sure he loved you guys a lot. I mean, you said he was part of the Rebellion, he probably didn't want too see his family under the rule of the Empire. I'm sure in whatever he did, he kept all of you in mind. Afterall, he raised you right? And you're a good person, so it's not too far of a stretch for me to believe he was too."

He gave Cyrus a bit of a smile, trying to cheer himself up more then his mentor. He still found it strange how everyone casually accepted deaths of loved ones. Maybe it was because he was close to his family and friends that the thought of losing any of them made him shiver. Or maybe it was Cyrus and the Jedi's teachings that made his master cope so well.

He interrupted his train of thought with a thought that just came to mind.

"Cyrus... you mentioned before that the force was something in your genetic things. And my dad mentioned that my mother was Jedi, so I can grasp the idea where I got the genee stuff for that. But what about you? Where did your force genies come from? Are your parents Jedi too?" He wasn't even sure if he was asking something that made any sense. But hey, might as well ask something potentially foolish then live your life not knowing the answer.

Cyrus snickered, enjoying his apprentice calling genes genies instead. He'd have to tell Nex about the old children's stories of creature living in objects that could grant wishes to people. "Well I'm not quite sure if he ever had any personal gripes with the Empire or not. Even back then the Rebellion paid a lot more than normal jobs so I think it was more to help support us. Hope it doesn't sound cold speaking about him in such a matter-of-fact manner. He did love us and was probably a better father than a lot of people could ever hope for."

"As for the wholes genes thing, neither of my parents were Jedi. That's one way to acquire Force potential but I'm fairly certain for most people it's simply a matter of chance. If we knew exactly how someone gained the ability to use the Force...well there would be a lot more than the few hundred Jedi there are now."

"Huh...then this whole force thing is more confusing then I've thought." he said, scratching his head and giving Cyrus a confused look of bewilderment, "and I already found it to be pretty mind boggling to begin with."

He placed his head down on Cyrus's shoulder. He was still trying to comprehend all of this force stuff in his life. He still doesn't know how he does what he can do. Maybe he should just accept that there isn't really answer to every question. Some things were just mysteries of life and there's not really something someone can definitely have the correct idea too. It was all so much to try to take in. So he ignored that for now, and focused on Cyrus.

"Well, despite his actual intentions, that doesn't change that he did what he did for you, and the good of his family. He was a good man, a good father who raised good kids, and cared about his family. I hope I could be such a father to my own kids one day. One to put their well being before anything else. I could only wish that I have such an opportunity for that."

He quickly cleared his throat and looked back toward Cyrus, no point in longing for home at this moment. They had a lot of work too do before they can even get close to that idea. They still had a Sith to defeat, and a galaxy to save before any of that.

"Have anything else you'd like to share about your past Cyrus? Be it back on Talus, or even your time training in the temple. Stories about you and your master. What you accomplished together. Or anything personal you might want to share with me. I hope you don't mind me asking but...did you ever see yourself as a Jedi before...you know becoming one. Did you have any other plans before any of that? Maybe you wanted to start your own family or have your own farm back home or something, I don't know. Let me know if I'm getting close with any of this speculation."

    Long post is long :p

"Askin' the hard questions today I see. Gosh where do I even begin with that." Cyrus scratched the back of his neck with the arm whose shoulder Nex was not occupying. "Well it would be kind of hard to consider oneself a Jedi without the Force abilities. I know you're talking about the Code though. If I had to sum Code up in a few sentences it would probably be everything is good in moderation and be good to others. That's kind of how I was raised so it wasn't exactly a difficult transition."

"As for the others...before Jedi training was offered I really wasn't quite sure what to do. No real interest in taking up farming for a living or starting my own family. It was a really weird feeling...like I wanted to take a trip or something yet at the same time I was perfectly content to stay right where I was. You know that feeling when you're just buzzing with energy but no where to direct it? It was exactly like that."

"If you want stories from my training though then I guess I could tell you what earned me the promotion to Knight." Cyrus didn't really care much at all for telling of personal accomplishments but it was nice for once to actually have the attention of someone that was interested and could appreciate it.

"So first a bit about my master. She's originally from out in the Rishi Maze we knew already she was going to be a bit odd. Her name is Ha'Shek and she has an accent so thick when speaking her broken basic you could hardly understand a word, despite her being human. Never asked her age but I guess she's nearing 40 or so." Cyrus unconsciously beamed with nostalgia as he started to recount the adventure.

"She is strict, stubborn, and borderline violent but is without a doubt one of the most caring and dedicated people I've ever met. Why just when we've finished the initiate's trials and were lined up in front of our prospective masters she came right up to me, pushed me from side to side, ruffled my head really hard and just said "This one will do." I still don't think I'll ever completely understand her methods. Right, getting a bit off topic there."

The Jedi walked over to a bench along the Promenade as sat down, not really wanting to think and talk and walk at the same time. "Anyway, we'd been together a few years at this point. We'd just finished helping the Coruscant security forces deal with a swoop gang when we got a coded holo from one of her friends on Narr Shaddaa. Apparently some pirate had tried to sell a couple of old Jedi holocrons to a bunch of rather shady looking people. So shady in fact that they spooked even our pirate. My master's informant heard them planning to kill the pirate before he was able to flee instead."

"We only had an old Y-Wing to get around with at the time, thankfully the hyperdrives on those things are so blasted fast. No joke, just as we were exiting our hanger we saw the same weirdos from the holo going into one so naturally we followed them. So we're watching from behind some boxes as a pirate crew and the weirdos start getting into a shouting match. Despite the volume they remained civil right up until the point someone decided to bring out a kriffing rocket launcher. Boom! Three of the weirdos get caught up in the blast and now the other two are -pissed-. All of a sudden they pull out lightsabers and just start butchering the pirates. I mean by the time we closed the 50 meters or so to where the fighting was they had already killed like 5out of maybe 8 pirates."

"So we jump straight in and have to deal with a pair of darksiders. While we were dueling with them, the pirates decided it was time to go. So their freighter lights its engines and starts to bolt just as we've managed to cut down the two darksiders. I have no idea what my master was thinking at the time but then she just leaps onto their ship and starts cutting a hole it it."

"By the time I make it back to the Y-Wing and get its engines ready to go, the very same freighter just plops right down in the hanger next to our ship. The ramp opens and she marches out with the three pirates and a sack with the holocrons in it. We spent that night in a Hutt jail and another afternoon explaining why we'd made such a mess of the spaceport. Fortunately my master managed to convince the Hutt that freeing us and the return of the holocrons would be viewed quite favorably by Master Skywalker."

"So we didn't save a planet from destruction or anything but it was one heck of an experience."

Nexnip listened in on Cyrus's tale with intense interest. He looked upon his mentor with some new found respect. Pirates, Darkside users, Cyrus's master cutting a hole into a moving ship. It all sounded like something out of an action oriented holo-vid. And this was but one of his adventures he had. Nex was absolutely enthused by his master's story.

"Wow, that...I don't think I've given you enough credit Cyrus. That sounds...well to be honest incredibly dangerous and ludicrously fool hardy, but quite a tale nonetheless." he said in complete awe on what he heard, "Wh-what else did you guys do...there had to be some other adventures you went on prior to all that, right?"

sorry to interrupt you in the middle of your romance novel there @Uriel1339.
We'll be right back with the tale of Zuri and Kass:

    "Hunting for Love"

Or maybe it should be "Sights on passion"

    "Beauty and the Bounty"

    "Under an Ithorian Moon"

    "A Huntress' Heart"

    "The Price on Love"

"A Song of Ice and Fire Fights"

One of these has to be the title of one of the romance novels Zuri reads.

Cyrus stood up and stretched a bit, lightly holding Nex steady so he wouldn't fall off his shoulder. After just about all his vertabrae had cracked, he resumed their walk towards the bookstore. "Well of course we had tons of other adventures. Where would be the fun in telling them all right now? Then what would we do on long flights?" He said, ruffling Nex a bit. "Don't worry, you'll hear 'em all given enough time."
