The problem with punishing TKs with an XP penalty is that you are going to be punished even you aren't at fault, and yes, we all know that some people will abuse such a system to cause grief to their "allies". EDIT: I think the OP is right about showing heals and revived on the score board, but personally I would prefer if it used K/D --- H/R --- E --- Experience Points. And yes, the kills and death should be departed(?) by a slash and the healing should be shown as Healing Done/Revives, though maybe the "Healing Done" should be divided by 100 so that it won't take up to much space.
Well idk it's a shooter and not a very tactical one as off now if we're honest, so of course it's also about kills. Also, while a healer will get a lot of revives and heals, later on a techmarine will get a lot of repairs, a havoc/dev will get a lot of supression assists, a MoN and even more so Shieldbros and Raptors/JPAs (because they can't cap) simply won't get as many squad support actions as the other classes. I seriously don't get what everyones problem is with K/D. People will go lone wolf anyway wether or not it's there. And the role I see myself currently in as MoN is actually to lonewolf at times and not always hang with my squad. Anyway I think this is made more of a problem than it acutally is. If anything scratch the scoreboard completely and just go for an XP screen, or a stat screen where each player sees how much XP they, and only they, gained and how many of these points are earned for which action.
i would rather see TK's as minus exp, a huge chunk, and it could and should result for massive Tk'ers to let them finish the game with score below zero.
Wouldn't it be easier to just ban all weapons capable of doing AoE damage and prevent people from firing at targets in melee?
that would be very stupid, since weapons with AoE have a good tactical application if handled properly by responsible person.
We need xp for squad spawn on transports too. I help win games by staying in well placed rhinos and pushing them up with or ahead of the infantry line when its smart, and get very little reward points wise. And yes to -points for FF kills. Naughty little plasma users need to be smacked. I see people using them constantly in crowded indoors situations...the mind boggles.
The argument that removing K/D scoreboard will stop or discourage lone wolfing isn't very strong, people will lone wolf whether there is a K/D scoreboard or not, because lone wolfing is what is fun for them. The idea that removing it disincentives the act or removes the desire is a non-sequitur. Removing the K/D certainly wouldn't stop me. When I want to just kill, I kill. When I want to go around healing and reviving I do that. When I want to taxi people around in a Rhino or be on anti-vehicle duty I do that. Attempting to discouraging people from playing the way they want is infantilizing. Besides, as is apparent to all there are many extremely talented lone wolfers who contribute to the effort by sending hordes of us back to the spawn point. It is not by nature a flawed "role." The game already incentivizes teamwork by awarding massive XP for capping(10 player kills worth in addition to whoever you kill that tries to stop you) and half that for defending. Additionally, anyone with half a brain is aware that working as a team is the greatest force multiplier there is. People love winning, those that really want to win will work as a team. As someone stated above this is a competitive multiplayer game, many people really enjoy seeing their K/D as well as the K/D of others. It is a cornerstone of shooter game gameplay and rightfully so, killing enemy players is the largest component of what shooters are all about. Remove the combat aspect and this game is nothing. Removing it because you want people to play with you is selfish. It reminds me of the kid on the playground that screams at the other kids that they are "playing the game wrong."
Why not just follow an already well wrought out solution that PS2 provides - keep the rank based on total score as it is now (good) for public viewing, and show your K/D only to yourself?
I have very strong feeling that this is the actual problem here, lack of thinking due to most of the brain dedicated to fraging enemy targets or friendly alike. I think we should encourage people to stay at points even when they are not being attacked at the moment, by giving them like X amount of exp (small but noticeable like 10 to 50 per several seconds) when they stick around objective point. This could encourage good and effective digging in and not leaving points empty.
