"Sister they don't know what to do with just one of me..."
"Let alone this many of me..."
I was a bit worried when I watched the trailer at first, all the tiles made me wonder if it was to end up just being a boxed game like Betrayal at Calth, which while fine for collecting the models nobody at my store actually played the game itself, so I'd have just ended up with some cool cultists and renegade. But as I'd hoped/suspected the Shadow War terrain wasn't just for looks and we're getting actual TT rules.
Codex: Scum maaaaybe?
Well the boxed game tiles match those of FW's Zone Mortalis boards and then there's the Shadow Wars terrain, so they are 'cross-pollinating' products like they said.
It is probable that they'll do a ruleset like that of Shadow Wars: Armageddon, maybe with an eye to future crossovers.
The boxset itself is probably either the equivalent of a 40K Starter Set or a game like the recent Gangs of Commorragh.
We'll have to wait and see though.
I imagine the first box will be like Betrayal at Calth or Burning of Prospero with the tiles, rules and models, the expansion just seems to confirm that instead of just the "board game" style that they're going to do both, which is good, though I can't really see the board game one lasting long, as none of the others did.
Further crossovers would be good, original Necromunda included some appendix rules for monsters and other factions like Chaos Marines and Eldar Rangers, and Gangland Expansions had Chaos and Genestealer Cults, so there's room for it while also staying true to the original game. This is something I hope for, because although I plan on collecting Gangers, allowing other factions to be involved does two important things. It allows for small skirmish games for 8th Edition, and letting players use their faction of choice would keep people playing Necromunda. I want to play this for more than a week or two.
