How did Spawn Beacons kill Planetside 2? Never played, so I'm curious. The only real experience I have with deployable beacons is the Uplinks from Dust514 and those worked fine. Rhinos work great, don't get me wrong, but a more stealthy option would be great too.
The only thing that I remember about planetside2 sucking was the armies weren't balanced. Too many people only joined the winning side of servers.
You already had spawns inside the bases/towers, Sunderer transports which are basically that game's equivalent to Rhino transports, quick deploy, vehicle squad mate deploy, etc. THEN you could spawn beacon on top of all that crap. There were so many ways to get to a fight and just drop in the middle of nowhere that they didn't need the extra spawn deploy. Pulling a vehicle was easy and you could do it as any class. There were constant ways of getting to the fight and the game devs made it waaaay too easy to do. Losing a transport vehicle was no biggy because there were always 10 more around it... It would have been fine if the game didn't have a jet pack class which made zero sound, had zero jet pack effects to see them, and could fly up in the most impossible to reach areas. Players would put spawn beacons on top of bases where they could never be shot off. The only way to get remove it was to go up there with a high level jet pack character and shoot it because sometimes they were put in crevices nobody could shoot at from a distance. This led to people constantly jumping down on your head THROWING c4 and wiping entire clusters of team mates. Rather than keeping the fight on front lines where the two teams go on a show down and try to sneak around the sides, Planetside 2 devs thought it'd be great if there was shit coming from every single direction including the sky. Air vehicles were bad enough, having to worry about suicide jet packers (also known as c4 fairies) was the kicker. You could also solo man squad beacon for yourself and even though it had a small re-use timer it was just hell when everyone was jumping out of their planes, letting them crash on players and then throwing down a spawn beacon as icing on the cake to come back and shoot down on your whole team while there's very little you can do to stop it. The game was utter chaos and failed within the first year. It bled and haemorrhaged players like no other. I'd rather not see this game become a chaotic mess and learn from the mistakes of Planetside 2. We don't need constant randomized or instant spawning in on team mates. Current mechanics are fine. Having better spawn protection though in this game would be great. A bunker that has guns that players come out of or something would be lovely. Rather than just naked and defenceless in the middle of nowhere.
BF4 is using it. The only thing is that if the Sergent is in melee you cant spawn on him. Dice worked that part of it out, not sure what they did but, if they can get it to work I am sure that BE can. Its just a idea. Still having 9 times out of 10 that squad mates all over the map and not together. Just thought it would help keep squad integrity.
