Spawn camping is a hot topic and an issue. Especially when PuGs are invaded by overwhelming amounts of guild players. People are starting to remember general spawn locations especially for Point A on the fortress for attackers. Its not fun getting slaughtered by plasma, tanks, and grenades before you can even move. What does the community think? Perhaps this has already been discussed but I have not seen comments about this for a while. Edit: I mean limited invulnerability. IE: 2 secs.
I voted for doors etc. allthou they could be camped as well. It's hard to say without testing. But invulnerabilty ... I dunno
Spawn camping should never be allowed. There should be game mechanics in place to prevent it. Protected areas that are not accessible to direct fire. Invulnerability during load time 2-3 seconds should be an option when there is no other choice (physical barriers/location).
I feel as though having just invulnerability will rely on the players skill to push the spawn campers away, but if you have the support of a moderately powerful turret then you'll have a tool to make sure the other team won't push you against a wall.
The thing about spawn camping on Harkus is that there are several spawn points to choose from. Pick another location. However, I can admit that there probably should also be more than just the 2 or 3 spawn locations on the wall.
Good topic! I voted for Physical Barriers, but I think it really depends upon the map and I think it wouldnt hurt to do implement a combination of the suggestions you put forward. I like the idea of turrets, but I believe they should be AI controlled. Tarantula turrets, grav platforms, gretchin manned towers come to mind as fluff acceptable turret emplacements. The role of these turrets would not necessarily be to kill spawn campers, but suppress them. Maps I can see them being useful on would be Olipsis defense station and Pegasus station. Outside of the two maps listed, I think the others maps need a different approach to prevent spawn camping. For Harkus and Blackbolt and other maps that have spawns that occur in enclosed spaces or in wide open areas, a short invulnerability (2-3 seconds or so) combined with more cover and physical barriers would probably help a players not be instantly spawn killed. Another suggestion that could be added to your list is, increasing the number of the actual spawning points on each objective/deployment zone to make player deployment more randomized, so rather than the 2 or 3 areas where players can appear on the map, if the devs increase it to say 5 or 6 it would certainly counteract spawn camping.
Yes on harkus the wall spawn point is so predictive..I see raptors standing in the middle of the spawn waiting for 5 LSM to popup and slay them in a split second. Probably happens to CSM as well I asume.
Turrets would just be blown up? If turrets then make those invul., so it would be stupid for the other faction to stay in the area.
I would say turrets on permanent spawns should be given massive hit pools and maybe a shield. Forcing any spawn camper fixed on destroying them to waste a lot of energy. If turrets can also be spawned on capable objective points, they should be destructible as these points can exchange hands during a match.
Exactly my thinking. I feel this would be the best form to prevent spawn abuse. I was playing with my friend the other day he got killed 4 times while spawning before he was able to escape. That isn't right. I hope the devs take notice as spawn camping is a great way to deter new players.
