The problem is not lore wise, what forbid a trained soldier to take a weapon? It's balance wise, we should stop rely on TT, lore or other things (especially when lore only follow great warrior and everyone identify as them when they are the random LSM on the side who's going to die first). Giving bolter to the Apho was kind of a mistake (more specialization? He's not a tactical, his specialization is support and heal). They should have removed it, but no they gave it to last guy who didn't have it. Corgi priest were prey of choice, now I will just avoid them like every other overdrugged apho.
That's, like, normal for 40k though. The Space Marines get special treatment up the wazoo, everyone else gets treated like shit.
It's not about not making it fair for the WP, as you stated quite clearly and rightfully (in my opinion) it indeed was totally unfair that the WP was stuck with a mace that he could do sheit with when Apo could use a Boltgun. But there were 2 Ways to resolve this. Either make Melee great again and the WP viable for Melee engagements... or you take the easy route and just give him a Bolter. I think, under the surface, this is just another mele vs ranged discussion, and the dev's giving Bolter to Wolfpriest means, there is no balance between the two in sight... This is just a bandaid to a wound that is bleeding like crazy
All nice and dandy, if not for the fact that devs specifically stated on twitch Q&A that they'd rather add more powers instead of buffing current ones.
Well, since the Wolf Priest can now pick a Bolter and isn't white like the Apothecaries, then there is no reason for the Sanguinary Priest to wear white instead of the good looking red armor they had when they first arrived. Back then they removed it because the "Blood Angel Apothecary" were to good compared to other Apothecaries, due to it being harder to spot. I am eagerly awaiting this change and since it would affect LSM I assume I won't have to wait more than a week or two, not like when they promise changes for the other Factions ^^ EDIT: And hey, what about giving the Psykers some offensive firepower now. I would be more than willing to pay 200 LP for a Psy-Power on the level of an ASC, or maybe make it slightly worse as we would still have a "Chainsword" with us.
This is a very conveniant way to structure your counterargument. In a first step you pretend that this is just a "LSM-internal" dispute discrediting 90% of the critical voices by declaring their input null and void while failing to understand that those 90% might not even care if your armor is black like in the lore or has a certain coat of wolffur on it. After that you proceed to make an argument for the change by pretending any of the other LSM apothecaries would actually speak up and bring a valid claim of why the spacewolfs should be worse... Once you have done that masterpiece you selectively pick arguments to your favour and arrange them so it might seem justified completely ignoring game balance and basing your current observation on the current meta. Even further hampering the validity of your argument. I mean it is conveniant (and for the sake of the game balance clearly justified) that the wolfpriest actually gets the same abilites to heal like every other apoth (while in the lore his abilities are limited compared to regular apothecaries) -because of balance reasons. He initially received the mace "because it is like that in the lore", back when the mace was actually great and melee outclassed any other apoth. The argument up till 1.3 was that the other apoth should get a buff (which they did in form of the new swordneedle) and the WP who was ironically outperforming a GA should not be nerfed because in the lore he was also a chaplain and those chaplains man, they have maces and a rosarius. The same textlines of boltguns or stormbolters beeing viable were in the codexes back then aswell but it was declared heresy to suggest a downgrade from the mace because clearly he would always pick his iconic weapon above a mere boltgun and spacewolfs were always meant to be about personal combat and melee. How that changed with just one balance patch... Now that melee in general and maces as a special case are broken we come to the point where those lines are remembered and now it is very conveniant to be able to pick a boltgun, i mean they are good now and an upgrade over the silly mace noone liked before anyways. Not to mention the always returning argument that you are the only special snowflake out there and how it would be totally unfair to you to be weaker compared to the other LSM healing subclass. If the WP is actually stronger, well then it is not really much of an issue because thats surely covered in the lore and afterall you are supposed to be a chaplain aswell. Other factions or even classes have to downgrade their equipment for the sake of balance in this third person iteration of the 40k universe. No Dokclaw, no boltgun for the sorcerer, no weaponplatforms for guardians etc etc. But the wolfpriest is a chaplain? Really? I mean the Sorcerers were downgraded to aspiring sorcerers to limit their abilites for the balance of the game. There are no aoe stuns, instant death organ explosions and the like not to mention the "powerfull" abilites full psykers in the novels are able to evoke, shattering planets, controlling crowds, or demonology. All csm gets are mere "medics with some magic" while the WP semi-chaplain saves the day? Even Veterans while beeing called Sorcerers clearly have the same pitifull array of half broken spells, are without any lore reason melee throtteled and have no choice but to abstain from the bolterporn crowd. Finally your whole argument of selfpity and how you were close to deleting your whole LSM subfaction because the wolfpriest felt for the whole time of 3 weeks weaker compared to his LSM brothers is just hiallarious. I will let you in on a secret: No ork, eldar, csm can actually delete their chars to make a difference if they are displeased with the state of their supports. If they stick with their faction its always the same. Because they didnt get our special toys and subfaction abilities in the first place.
For any of you lovely gumdrops of happiness screaming about lore inaccuracy, you should be complaining they don't have access to Combi-weapons rather than just generic boltguns. As it stands they need Storm Bolters too! Stop whining, holy shit. Go complain more about how other more important things are not in the game. Like Combi-weapons. Or functioning Jump Packs.
