Ok guise, i was watching the 3rd Eternal Crusade Stream Gameplay and i noticed a Planetary defense cannon, which I don't know how it will implemented as an objective BUT. It gave me the idea of Space battle that maybe could be an expansion of the game or something. Also Behaviour interactive.. Good job so far.

I hope you guys will notice this but here we go.

So there are 4 factions, Eldar, Orks, Chaos Marines and Marines mk.
Give them a battle barge each, (a space hq where each faction can assemble for assualts on enemy vessels).

    Battle Barge (Space Hq)
Most of the Hq ship will be controlled by a.i. so players don't have to worry about the menial tasks like plumbing, that's for the grots.

Bridge: Will have all the systems where players can control the main weapons or functions of the ship, view ship systems (status of shields/hull and weapon conditions etc. Players of opposite factions can fight their way here to take over the ship once the shields are down and maybe take control or sabotage the ship (idk). Other than taking out the engine/reactors taking the bridge may provide extra resources or rewards?

    Engine/reactor room:
The engine room houses the ships priority systems to keep it running, but can be accesed and destroyed easier than the bridge but will blow up the ship, not giving the extra resources/rewards given by taking the Bridge.

    Planetfall room:
Where players can be dropped to the ground to help with the war planetside(pun) either by drop pods teleporting etc.

    Hanger:
Where the fighters, Bombers and troop carriers are and where enemies can enter and raid the ship from here.

    Player controlled ships

    Fighters:
Used for regular space battle, light fast and equipped with fast firing weapons to take out other player controlled space craft.

    Bomber:
Bombs stuff. Good for taking down shields, taking out hq ship outer armaments and systems, heavier and slower, recommended to be escorted. Armed with missles for a hq ship and a smaller gun to take out fighters.

    Troop Carrier:
Delivers troops into the enemy ships hanger after the shields have been taken out, slowest and heaviest of all the ships it will require an escort. Equipped with multiple small guns on the sides to help escorts take out enemy fighters.

The space battles and ground war can be intertwined by:

Hq ship position, Not sure how but the ships could be able to be placed into strategic positions for behind the line drops or orbital bombardments.

The planetary defense cannon i was talking about which sparked this wonderful idea. Can be captured and used to help take out enemy hq ships or maybe even player controlled ships.

When a enemy faction hq ship is captured, you might get buffs, more resources or more territory on the ground?

Also this could add flying vehicles for the planet war as well.

Anyway i hope Behaviour Interactive give this a quick once over and consider it.

And to the rest of the community, please comment if you have any questions/ideas for this marvellous idea for an expansion.

    Much Love from Australia.

We've had multiple threads with the similar idea. Under the bottom line, EC will be an infantry-centric game, so Space Combat or super-heavy vehicles are not a very likely sight in the close or intermediate future.

Closed arenas that resemble space ships with goals such as "overload the reactor" or "punch the captain npc in the face" may become a thing, but actual combat with space fighters and whatnot is nothing I would count down. Stuff like that would require its own game, similar to Titans and Super-Heavy Vehicles.

I can foresee a few problems with fighting inside a BB (or equiv), firstly third person cameras have a history of being very bad for enclosed rooms/spaces, secondly the battles will be either completely dominated by melee classes or by the heavy longrange classes depending on how many long corridors people are forced to defend/attack and finally it's going to be dominated by whatever faction has the most pop.

In a field, maneuver and skillful warfare can be used to stall, weaken or even wipeout a larger force, in tight cqc the battles are more about attrition because (by definition) there isn't room to maneuver around a larger forces attack and hit it's flanks. This would result in the biggest faction always being able to capture the bridge and basically be a free resources bucket when they've run out from fighting on surface.

However, if it were just about the 'air' power (fighters and bombers etc) it would be far more balance friendly and give EC more variance in it's play and another objective system to work on.

Using the Search Function is HERESY...or was it the other way round?

Yes, it would be a big undertaking and probably not worth it for the company, but space battles, titans and super heavy vehicles are a nice thing to think about. I'm thinking they might try make a dungeon (closed arena) system similar to World of Warcraft but i think this world can do without them. Also i think i heard them mention in game missions, which would probably be like "secure this many certain objectives" etc which is always a nice way to get the factions working as teams.

40k Space battles or super heavy vehicular warfare could become spin offs, looking at some previous games.

If they are very successful or get multiple backings from different companies they could pull these kinds of things off but seeing as 40k is a small community compared to fan clubs like halo/cod, as you said wouldn't be very likely.

    Cheers for the reply fireeye

Yeah, as i said in the reply to fireeye, it is always a nice thing to think about with all this unused content of the 40k universe. I agree all of what you've stated, alot of problems can occur and a tight spaceship is not a good idea with the current mechanics we have seen in the game so far, but with a great team like this and with their attempt to reach out to the community this early in development some of these problems may be overcome with a good'ol brainstorm. (i can't think of solutions atm)

So far this game has me shaking in anticipation for the next twitch reveal (especially the eldar) and with a growing community like ours these things may be achievable if everyone pitches in but for now they are heading in teh right direction. :)
  8. If anything, the cannon is just there for looks OR to be used to bombard enemies at a quite large distance.
  9. Claksack Clakas Arkhona Vanguard

You'd have to think so I guess.
  10. The Planetary Defence Cannon could allow the controller to barrage other areas on the continent, though you'd need someone on the spot to provide coordinates and call in the fire, or to prevent an enemy faction getting orbital reinforcements.

You don't need space battles to make use of such a weapon.
