Was thinking like this: Super Sneaky Raven Guard chapter ship sneaks up on eldar vessel. Suddenly it reveals itself and sends out boarding torpedoes. Eldar on surface are suddenly OMG SHIPS BEING BOARDED. TO DA WEBWAY! Eldar run through into webway and appear at a staging area on the ship. They must locate the enemy players and neutralize them before too much damage is done to ship or other objectives. Point being they dont start in (too) defensive posistions and their knowledge is limited. Perhaps based on skill of assaulting players they could be given more time to defend themselves Also assaulting players would have to fight overwhelming numbers as enemies 'respawn' in webway gate room, they must shut off power / webway which would be no easy feat to control / destroy the vessel. Perhaps an eldar commander would have to get to the bridge so they could self destruct the ship instead of letting it be captured.
Yeah that sounds awesome Another point is , will each faction have ships where the insides are the same for that one faction. Space marine/CSM strike cruisers having the same inside template, Eldar and Ork having different ones for their ships. So after a couple of raids on 1 type you will know your way around and get objectives done faster. Or have them randomise across a faction , even if you raid the same vessel twice, for longer playability?
What if you could exit your ship and walk around on the hull or perhaps float around a little, imagine you're in a broad cargo hold were you and your squad are fighting the enemie and then all the sudden the cargo hold just explodes and everyone is sucked out into space, the fighting dosen't stop but continues outside of the ship, the book cover of the Horus Heresy novel "Know no fear" inspired this idea.
Awesome idea, but I don't think it would work for a mmo, regular game sure, but the mechanics for zero grav would be too much for the scale. More likely you get dislodged from the ship you fly to your death in void-space. Walking on the hull and fighting though...
okay so i like the idea but what would the consequences be when the enemy overruns your "guilds" strike cruiser? Starting from scratch and losing your hall of achievements and glories seems really harsh but what other way could we go? The only reasonable solution i can think of is that once the attacking force "wins" they recieve a heafty reward and are "called back" to their own ship because opposing reinforcements are inbound. It couldn't be an actual retreat order but a "game over" type of scenario that explains how both factions manage to keep their strike cruiser.
Even if it ended up just being a throw down on space hulks for artifacts "game play objective" or something similar, might be easier to implement prior to every race/faction getting their own boats. Either way I like most of your guys ideas so far.
