Space Marine Speed

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by DoMiNaNt_HuNtEr, Jul 14, 2014.

  1. So...... should they be lumbering, slow heavy steppers? Or can they have the ability to go at the speeds that which are described in the lore? Like a super sprint?

Space Marine the game, well, I loved it. But it is my example.

For those of you who have played it, you got walking speed, then jogging speed. If there was a sprinting speed that would be cool.

Basically, discuss ideas that could appeal to the Marine lore. Marines have wicked fast reflexes, and can run like the wind apparently - for something that seems so solid and bulky, this thing is quick, according to many sources.

To be fair with the way the lore keeps adding to their abilities it's going to get to the stage that the Space Marines will have to be removed from the game and replaced by the Imperial Guard to maintain balance.....

  3. True enough.

But would you envision a marine being capable of running 25% faster than what was shown in WH40K Space Marine?

    Something like that?

No please, lore have always made space marines way too overpowered. I was reading a novel recently and a single space marine took out a hive tyrant and some gargantuan tunnel worm monster. Wasn't a known character either.

Anyways the speed in THQ:SM was fine. If you gave them a sprint it would make them op, for balance sake I'd much rather it go to the Eldar to compensate for their frail physique and they're more of an agile race.

Well, in some books space marines are as fast as Dark Eldar and the human eye can barely see them when they are at top speed, probably console players that can't see more than 30 fps tho (joke joke)

The lore is not a good way to balance or add mechanics to a faction, I recently read a short story about the Crimson Fist, TLDR, 1 sternguard run directly towards 6 "powerful" warlocks and a farseer (strangely enough they forgot to use their psychic powers), he killed 5 warlocks with his bolter, the runic armour of the 6th warlock deflected the bullets (runic armour is just cloth... it's effective because the runes channel the warlock/farseer psychic powers and create a shield but whatever...) so he killed him with a power knife/sword and then he also killed the farseer, freaking horrible writing, lore-raping stupid shit, if someone writes a book about marines they are going to win period, sure a few random marines with no name will die to prove how powerful is the enemy and how badass is the main character but most of the BL stuff is just made to hype 12 yo fanboys (or grown men like me) about his favourite chapter.
  6. This is perfect. Keep your opinions coming people. I agree with them all so far, but I have seen a few complaints regarding THQ Space Marine and the speed of the marines.

no Marine can out pace an Ork wearing red.

But seriously, the faster moving creatures in the game should be the genestealers.
  9. Actually I think Orks should be faster than marines. Seriously, half of them don't wear armor, plus they ARE RAGE.

Where as marines are disciplined soldiers, capable of directing powerful evil towards any life force taht gets in their way. Thats why Chaos decided to free themselves from the emperor.

Why not simply give all races some form of sprint with a rechargeable stamina bar that ticks down while you sprint, once it zeros out you are reduced to walking, no rolls, no straffing, no jumping until such time that it gets up to 1/3 full.

Make each dodge, barrel-roll, sprint and jump have a stamina cost, some negligible (such as jumping) so you can do it constantly, some costly (such as sprint) that eats your bar away and will leave you vulnerable if you don't control your actions properly?

You could even use it to balance close combat manoeuvres and dodges etc, giving assaults more stamina in their skill trees than tacticals/heavy's get to balance the range vs melee discrepancy.
