Space Marines are usually inducted into the Program as early as age 10. 12 also seems very common. This is necessary because the bone modifications generally need to happen before too much growth from puberty happens.

12 year olds can have children and yes a lot of the societies in which Space Marine Recruits are chosen from are very savage and cruel worlds (to foster that killer instinct) so it is quite possible that the uneducated, ghetto 12 year old would-be Space Marine is off ravaging little 12 year old girls and getting them pregnant but its either A)just not likely or B) just not documented

the only exception is on worlds conquered by the Salamanders or within the Empire of Ultramar as those Chapters were known to leave conquered worlds in pristine and civilized conditions in which they can thrive.

Happened in Britain, don't see how Ultramar and Nocturne are any different. In fact aren't one of the cases mentioned above from the Ultrasmurfs?

i was under the impression that Space Marines are selected from Hive Worlds and generally really rough parts of town because they wanted individuals that had killer instinct, that could kill without remorse.

but then i read that Ultramarines are recruited from worlds within the Empire of Ultramar and those worlds were civilized and for all intents and purposes "nice places" (according to WH40k standards of course).

but i suppose Space Marines need to be Space Marines and even the Empire of Ultramar has its fair share of grim savage backwater crime infested worlds. ..
  6. Sort of. Ultramar is still quite a warrior society and it's dominated by a mentality which abhors weakness and those who do not pull their weight. Many worlds, even the likes of Calth, are not exactly safe even if they do lack some of the extreme elements found on Catachan or Fenris. To keep this short - it's closer to Sparta than it is Rome in this respect, and the early Ultramarines novels do show that potential recruits are still put through living hell by the Chaplains to ensure they deserve their place.

well, its like i said, its "nice" according to WH40K standards
  8. Well, yeah, but I don't see how it would be interesting to read a novel on that at all. Kid A had a kid b. Kid A went on to become spehss mehreen. Kid A forgot all about Kid B and gave zero fucks; kid A never cared, was absentee father figure until Kid B's mother married/got with someone else. End of story. Not much in it.

i cant remember who they were speaking on, it may be the ultramarines again but some great houses of humanity pride themselves on sending generations their children to successfully become Adeptus Astartes

so it may not be Space MArines having children that become space marines, but more like a prestigious human family who carry good genes or w/e and they are able to "donate" child after child to become space marines

It's the Ultramarines.... I read something like that in the novel of Nick Kyme, Fall of Damnos.
