For those that keep saying that we should be able to kill someone and get back up because lore supports marines etc being able to take massive damage, if you're in a downed state you've already taken that massive damage, so let's not get ahead of ourselves with revives and springing back up, this is a PvP game not a PvE game I couldn't care less how it reacts when you're in a cave fighting the 'Nids but on the battlefield fighting other player dead = dead.

I'd actually prefer to see a successful revive being very rare with 90% of downed states being bleed outs, hell I'm old school. I'd like to be able to steal your weapons, loot your armour and strip you of the resources that are on your corpse if I could get to it without being killed, but some might find that too hardcore.

Like I said above and as Enginseer says, you won't be in a downed state for long, if I shoot you you can count on the fact that I'm going to shoot your downed self as well to make a proper corpse, if I kill you in CC then you can bet that I'm going to execute you if I get the chance, hell most people in an organised fight will have rear crews who's job it is to unload automatic fire into all downed enemies so that no one gets up.

Guess what I hope you do the same to me.

Do refer to what I explained how Guild Wars 2 do it.

The downed state while in unrealistic as many of the fans of realism (in a with orks, aliens, demons and genetically modifiend super human) keep bashing it, is initially made to help fighting and taking over keeps and castle easier because all it takes for the owner of the keeps and castle to defeat a group of 200 people attacking force is about 60ish people turtling inside the keep/castle raining arrow, cannon balls and hot oil down the people below the wall while trebuchet taking out any long range siege engine. Even with the system in place it is still extremely hard to take over a keep as me and about 40ish people once defended a keep from an attacking force of 200 people for 6 hours.

It is also there to discourage solo play because it is much much more advantageous to travel in a group and having others helping you up when you got downed as well as giving weaker, lighter armor class in PvE so that they have a better fighting chance when questing.
  3. No. Maybe a perk where you can use a pistol when you're downed, but you should always require a teammate to revive you.

You also worded the poll biasedly.

  4. I read all of this thread, and I was beginning to think that I was the only one to notice. Thank you.

I totally agree Raczak and his crew: no self rez by killing players, no, no, it's a no. NOPE. Just don't.

I won't talk about the fairness of giving any players, a free unlimited way to escape death anytime. I won't talk either about seing that applied to an ork, or an eldar, which becomes a true lore-rape.

Just like the "shooting while downed" perk, i'm okay if you give me some explanations (could be combat drugs, heroic last stand, ...), I can potentially tolerate it as a perk, but you've got to give me a SOLID explanation on how it works lorewise.

I think downed states are ok if the overkill system is in. I can accept everybody has a one-use medikit in his pocket and can choose between using on himself or on a friend, with a better result when used on teammates (more health given back). I'm also ok with the "one death: you can revive yourself, two deathes: only medic can revive you, three deathes: you're dead. Period." Quite balanced and avoids the "PS2 medic symptom" aka "Kill me I've got 25 medics behind me waiting for free xp".

We all have to admit than even a Space Marine is a mortal, and sometimes they die. Being in a downed states is, to me, a message to you telling "Mate, you've taken too much, if you weren't in an epic apocalyptic game, well you'll be eating dirt by now". But the guy is badass enough to have a choice : 1) stretch his limits, bleeding, nearly inconcious, hoping an ally would come to help, or let go and come back fresher but far away. All that because death is a sanction: If you don't want to spend too much time in a downed state, stick with your team and get to cover or fall back and think when it's becoming too difficult for you to rush guns blazing à l'ancienne. Besides you learn by doing mistakes.

Warframe is, I think, a good comparison (can't remember who did this though). The system is pretty well balanced, but it applies to a team of 4 exclusive players in a map filled with NPCs. Ok as a perk, as said before.

Aaand last but not least: the stats variations with getting slower when under 50% HP and stuff. I don't really think it would be a good idea in a game in which you're gonna be under a rain of metal and fire, mostly spending your time injured... I don't know, I'd say "no" by safety, or only when getting really close to the downed state (and even, I think the downed state is sufficient ...). But the fact that when "rezzing" you go with a certain percentage of you health seems right, + the possibility to be patched up by friends.

    Here, I think I catched up :D.

  5. I feel like people would just, fall over, too much, there needs to be weapons, that if they kill you, you dont go into a downed state, but just die.

I'm a fan of GW2's system, but for reasons mentioned, it doesn't mesh well with large scale PVP. It might be workable if, when you're downed, you get some sort of basic attack. If that attack kills another downed player, then you get your "autorez" aka rally, and can jump back in to action. This basic downed attack would most likely have a much lower damage amount than a normal attack, making this occurrence a very rare, but exciting, thing.

At the very least, we need to have some interesting options for when we are downed. A basic pistol attack, suicide grenade, etc. Otherwise the whole downed state just becomes "hurry up and die".

  7. This was literally just covered by the discussion on overkill damage. Weapons that deal massive damage will skip the downed state entirely. Yes, I know for a fact that the devs have been describing it this way; no, I do not recall where they covered it, so I cannot provide the exact source.

This was also literally just addressed. This is a dandy mechanic for singleplayer games (where you have to rescue yourself because there's literally no-one else), but in a massive wargame like this it's a step in the wrong direction. Killing a guy to magically recover is not a mechanic we need, or should want.

Edit: I went back and read through this post, and my mind supplied the voice of Gilbert Gottfried as narration. I regret nothing.

  8. I would totally hate the thought of dedicated Medics which you NEED in a group.

Actually what the devs showed/sayed so far sounds really OK.
    1. Overkill is confirmed, so no worrys here.
    2. You can be finished off by shooting while downed. So being downed without good cover is useless, except your teammate manages to kill your killer fast enough.
    3. You can only be "helped up" once by most allies, the second time needs someone dedicatet to it.

I really don't think the downed state will be to strong. I rather fear that you can do nothing during it and always want to bleed out faster.

You do get to attacks when you are downed in Guild Wars 2. In fact each class gets a whole separate set of skill you can use when you are downed to try to save yourself and a first aid skill that slowly replenishes your "health" as you channel it that will revive you when it is fully charged.

The only part that I see need to be removed is the ability to get a rally if someone kills the target that you tickled before you got downed. Even with that in game, you still get killed instantly when you are downed 4 times in a period of time, so nothing wrong with it in large scale fight since people have been fighting in 200vs200vs200 war since launch.

  10. You'll want to bleed out faster if:

    1. You're a lone wolf.

    2. You were abandonned by your mates.

    3. You died out of cover, becoming hard to reach for a rez

    4. You need to get to the respawn point quickly to grab a tank or spawn as a hero (or whatever you could need) and you are really far or really lazy.

    5. You know your teammates are noobs and all you want is to get far away thoses guys.

    6. This is your second "death", and there is absolutely NO MEDIC around you and you are aware of that. It's not worth waiting.

    7. You don't even want to look around you, trying to spot any weakness in the enemy lines, or you can't. (this one works if we can rotate the view while dead)

I think you got the point now: this "downed states" system is a teamplay vector AND a little strategical contraint: you have to think a little bit about your position and/or you need to get you friends close for a mutual protection.

What would be great would be to be able to move the downed mate to a safe place, because that's what IRL combat medic do, and that's smart. 'Nuff said.
