I was not having a go at you dude and i apologise if my post came across that way

That is still close quarters ,its just not melee based CQB their weapon in real world human terms would be the equivalent of a sub machine gun for ROF and range

Swooping Hawks can just snipe them from higher terrain they get on by using their wings. :)

And again, we are talking about jump classes and we are not even mentioning our new one, shadow spectres. I'm the biggest Warp Spider fanboy but prism rifles >>> anything you name, light infantry with jet packs and anti vehicle weapons this guys are freaking bad ass.

Rules for the SE http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/s/shadowspectres.pdf the weapons are amazing.

They are forgeworld exclusive and I don't have a clue what is BE position about forgeworld units in the game, never heard any of the devs talking about it.

They're great models for sure, but I can't see forgeworld units appearing before all the TT units have been included - so that may be a long wait.

Also it may be some ways off, but I'd be interested in how Dark Eldar Scourges will shake things up.
After-all they're heavy weapon troops with wings - that's gonna take some careful balancing.

Again, there are many alternatives to "pure" teleportation which at the same time wouldn't be hard to code and fit well to the lore (just visit the links that I inserted at the beginning of the topic).

Otherwise I wouldn't compare Spiders to Banshees or Scorpions: each of this Aspects are specialized in a very specific (and restrictive) combat manner that gives to a Temple its uniqueness. I won't write further about the role differences between Banshees and Scorpions (since we can only expect one CC class per faction), however it is not the case that just because Spiders use low ranged weapons they have to be assimilated to CC units. As it has already been said before: Spiders aren't that good in melee combat and wouldn't stand long against real CC specialists.

@Quothe: unfortunately I can't find my source about the WS/Sorcerer relation anymore, may be it was in Rogue Trader's bestiary, or some other RPG books...

    1. It's inevitable to have some open defences in open ground which are the ones I mean because Warp Spiders can't really do well at those due to the open ground.

    2. Yeah if they go completely along which is highly unlikely as Eldar move together. They're also very agile so hard to hit and rather small at distance so not that easy to spot.

    3. If you let them shoot at you you're doing it wrong and should be shot.

I wouldn't give heavy weapons minimum ranges as much as make them very hard to aim at close range because in my opinion there's no reason you can't shoot but hitting is hard. Don't the Warp Jumps only have a short range meaning in the open they aren't very good?

I feel I haven't explained my image of what the Hawks do very well. I don't mean things that fly up to your bunker and just shoot through gun slits and own everything that would be ridiculous. I mean things that will fly over an open area and as they go over unload grenades which deals damage to the unit (mid to high). After this either fly off as they'll be fast or continually fly over and shoot with lasers (much less damage) to distract them while other things for example Dire Avengers advance and finish them off. The Hawks can also deal with light infantry in the open in a similar way or just drop grenades everywhere to soften up enemies.
In summary attacking and distracting enemies in the open.

You would not need to get into melee just close quarters, your weapon negates the fact the enemy is in close proximity as that is what its designed for its has such a high rate of fire and punch their dead before they can swing at you

No worries, if you do find it please let me know though as it's something I'd be interested in seeing.

Plus the Exarch may have Powerblades which help.

That would work against a prey, not a predator lurking in the shadows => e.g. you've just teleport behind the Devastator guarding that bloody bridge; so you seize the opportunity and with your death spinner reduce the annoying mon'keigh to a refreshing red mist. But what happens next... ? An Assault Marine drops on you from the sky and with his roaring chainsword manages to carve your slender body up (little chance that you survive at this stage ^^)
