don't fight it. traitor is the "generic chaos marine name" for gw. the story is that: at some point devs decided that "chaos tactical marine" was not ok. dev asked Us to select a new name. so we made a topic with brainstorming fans finding cool names not already used for other units in the warhammer setting. we created and voted a small list of names: devs sent that list to GW. GW selected traitor, ignoring our list and votes. after some months a group of fan decided to write a letter to GW for raise our concern about the name with the help of devs we sent the mail to GW. months have passed. and traitors hate with the "heretic astartes power cards" is pubblished. (with the mirror book angel blade). the class is called traitor because gw want it even against players suggestion.

There's less to be gained not fighting it than fighting it. There's no reason to accept a decision you think is bad just because you're unlikely to change it. That's kind of why we're Chaos Marines afterall.
I've always loved how a faction that goes around saying "Blood for the Blood God", "For the Dark Powers", "Let the galaxy burn", and "Destroy for the sake of destruction, kill for the sake of killing" have people that label them as misunderstood. Like the Horus Heresy was just a misinterpretation of the events and Chaos are just fighting the good fight against the Imperium.
Well, The First Heretic is canon, and in it the Big E with the full cooperation of the Ultras were the first to plunge a knife in the back of an unsuspecting brother (surprise genocidal purge of the world Lorgar saw as his greatest achievement, the validation of his ideals). Not to mention that the Thousand Sons are definitely not traitors, not even if you take their breaking of the Edict of Nikea into account, since many broke that. Most noticeably and most ironically the Space Wolves, who did not care one bit about it. But all that is missing the point. The point is that when you click to play as a CSM, you are playing from their perspective. When you get to pick Chapter as a loyalist the Space Wolf guys are not called 'furfags' even if quite a few might call them that. They are called Space Wolves because the people that like them call them that. Secondly, the notation for all loyalists denote what their role is, and the same goes for all CSM except the basic dude, who is for some reason basically called the CSM equivalent of furfag. It looks dumb and ruins immersion.
