Now that I think about it, I'm starting to think that the reason we're only getting four factions and 16 subfactions at launch despite the long development time is because BE is going to optimise the shit outta EC. It'd make sense, considering what the game will be asking of our computers... At any rate, I have a 3.4 GHz I5 and an EVGA GTX 770 SC, so my computer is ready.
It'll be interesting, but I think once people figure out what their respective machines can handle, battle sizes will become self-regulating. Top-of-the-liners will probably be able to deal with as many players as the server realistically can, while people with lower end machines are going to instinctively avoid those huge battles and go do something else (which may or may not provoke a secondary battle). It happened fairly frequently when I played Planetside 2. Mind you, I wasn't around for the days when battles were so large that variable render distance was scaled down to 2 meters of ultra-laggy teleport fighting, but I doubt we'll end up being forced to fight in the huge battles if we choose to not do so. Edit: I really rather hope they do. If not, everybody's going to have problems. As far as specs go, I have a techie I know cobbling together a parts list for a high-end rig. He was supposed to get back to me today to go over specs and pricing, but he's behind schedule again. He's already three weeks behind. I just hope I hear back from him soon. As a gaming addict, this whole "not being able to play games" is driving me up the wall.
But I want to fight in huge battles. I am a bad shot, how am I supposed to hit anything if there aren't at least 200 players? I got a 2.93 GHz I7 and a GTX 560 Ti, so I hope I can play in a huge battle. But it is all about optimizing the game, as you said.
Oh. Upon closer inspection, I see that I misread your other post. I thought you were saying "Are they going to make us fight in huge battles?" as though you were hoping to avoid them. Apologies. In that case, yeah, it's all probably going to come down to optimization. Models, terrain, all that actual calculations and stuff-- I'm sure there's quite a lot they can do to actually decrease load on both ends. I just hope they do a better job than PS2...
Darn a new chassis for my pc is expensive But my pc can't run without having a large stationary fan cooling it down (the side cover is off), which is getting rather annoying. Maybe I should just call them, and tell them to put it on sale... Protocol: Overrule Calculating results - Wait - - Wait - - Results calculated - Thread stealing successful Mission Accomplished
My laptop is crap, moody and weird about what it chooses to play. But I'll have a paid internship next year and a real job six months later, so I'll have a real computer about the time this games actually a thing.
