Not against legion after legion of battle hardened Elves, probably trained directly under those who lived during the great war.

Trained isn't the same as being battle tested from a civil war with the Empire.

Morale would also be an issue eventually if the Nords are holding, well we lost another Legion, lets send another.

Well we're assuming the Dragonborn didn't take sides, that means it would be a stalemate.

Empire is quite similar then to the Stormcloaks in terms of their military power in Skyrim at least.

You act as if it will be wholsale slaughter...The intial forces would have a hard time, but throw enough men at something, and the walls will break. Also the Aldmeri dont have to fight with simply swords and shields. Given sufficient time, with all the resources of the Empire, and a blockade of all the provinces, who knows what the Aldmeri will magically come up with, to break Skyrim.

All they have to do is hold their opponents in, and progress with consolidating their empire. That's all they need. Once you have your prey against a corner, all further moves are dictated by you. Number one rule in fighting, and war...never let your opponent take over the field. Never let them corner you, or they dictate the flow of battle.
