Ravenor stands alone, although some of the references and background will be missed by someone starting with the Ravenor trilogy and skipping Eisenhorn. There's also a couple of unavoidable spoilers about what happens at the end of the Eisenhorn trilogy, so if you were to start with Ravenor it would ruin a lot of the suspense at the closing stages of Book 3 in Eisenhorn, were you to later return to it. Eisenhorn is a fantastic trilogy, and whilst perhaps not as openly grim as Ravenor it's certainly no less dark. There's really no good reason to skip it, IMO.
