Was a really good stream very informative, helped me to understand what we will have to do as a community to get the game we want I think there will have to be some compromises though along the way if we really want large numbers and open world. As Nathan pointed out we already have the tech for Open world but we do not have the tech to support 1000 player battles so I'm guessing there possibly might well be a trade off, less numbers and open world gameplay to do away with the match based stuff.
My main concern now is ow we can integrate different regional servers, such as Nathan said big meta-map with 4 continents.
Sorry man I was totally not blowing up on you. I was just absolutely stunned that EC had shifted course so dramatically.
No, actually, you got the reaction you did because you sat back and crowed that the game would be a failure and we were all morons for even being interested, or it sure seemed that way from where I was sitting. By and large, I typically agree that pre-ordering games is a poor choice. That the wildly optimistic visions from a year ago may not be realized is something you were correct about, but make no mistake: it was your tone that I for one-- and I assume many other forum members-- took issue with at the time.
Dont worry Sledgecrushr there has been a lot of "FAQ agression" being thrown around the last few days......oooh maybe we should call it #FAQgate!
Instanced-based over 1 server? I mean I don't mind that, but if it's just gonna be small instanced combat then I have a problem. That's not the game I foundered for. If I knew that was gonna be the case, I would have skipped over this title. In the FAQ, that doesn't seem to be the case though. It seems that it'll just have seperations via region. WHICH IS OKAY because the last thing I wanna see are walls of text that I can't read or russians calling me a cyka.
http://www.battle-brothers.net/devtrack According to Nathan, you can still transparently move from 1 instance to another, but it's still not sure which solution they will choose. To me, even loading screen is okay, but have to go back to Menu every time to spawn is annoying. Also, I think this is why Nathan don't consider PS2 an open world game: "As part of this extended definition, it is packed with actual content (between our battlefields in our instance) and free-form." An open world game to him should have other life form and things that fill the empty space between battle and battle, like ARMA3. ARMA 3 has bases with NPC factions, towns, civilians and even animals, while PS2 is just bases after bases.
Ganelon may be blunt but he has and always had a point, and I feel like that's what matters. People are very quick to jump on the bandwagon and become ignorantly loyal fans. Just browsing EC forums for a bit shows it. Yes, in one aspect, it's wonderful that we can display such an overwhelming show of support for our favourite IP and those who take interest in developing for it. But a healthy dose of cynicism is pretty much a universal requirement for not getting played in today's world. I'm also, before anyone mentions it, not suggesting that bE are playing us. I also can't factually deny that they are, albeit I can say that I have a level of faith in them that makes I think they are not doing such a thing. The thing is, the tone doesn't matter. Anything becomes a shitstorm here. Whether it be a pessimistic comment from Ganelon, or a feature change in EC. I know this is a thing with the internet at large, but still - it's annoying. Which is probably why Ganelon takes the tone he does. The only reason I don't is because I took a passive approach - sitting on the sidelines and watching what occurs. We're all such great beings.
And this is precisely what I decided to do when I noticed EC would definitely not become what it had been advertised to be a long time ago. This EC is going to be a completely different game, this is already a fact and the reasons for it are obvious for anybody who followed all the recent changes. The hype is over for me, Miguel's warp dust stopped working and now it's time to come back to reality. Does that make me feel sad? - a bit, but I will still play the game, why? - 1. Because I have already paid for it. 2. Because as a WH40k fan I will play anything (almost) that has WH40k label attached to it. Looking at what's going on now I have no idea if this, new EC is gonna be a good game or if it's gonna be released at all in the first place (I hope it will). That's why I just sit back and watch, the best thing to be done I guess. No hard feelings.
