There's no such thing as a successor chapter for anything other than a 1st Founding Chapter. They are all successors to the Imperial Fists.... Dorn's gene seed
Just correcting something and then I'll leave. The Space Wolves are not at legion strength, they are usually above chapter strength though. As the Great Companies number 12 and have no formal structure other than what their wolf lord diCtates, however the larger company is only 200 strong, they full chapter is no where near 12,000.
i play black templars. They use heavy bolters, lascannons, plasma cannons, melta-guns, (dont recall if they use multi meltas on individual marines) plasma guns, flamers, all in crusader squads armed with all bolters/shotguns--ranged crusader squads. Also, a black templar does not HAVE to charge forward blindly when an ally falls. They can make the tactical descision to hold the point, protect the geneseed, bring their ranged firepower to bear, etc. so yes, black templars use heavy weapons and are not stupid.
I am sorry if i gave you the impression that bts are stupid , i was reffering to the bts combat doctrine and it seemed like they wanted to avoid fire power like heavy weapons , my apologise
not at all--i can just appear very defensive, and wish to put down any falsehoods people have about the black templars.
2 things: 1: The "not codex" does not slide - that is a terrible reason to not let one of the more popular chapters be in the game. 2: If you want balance then just let Templar "librarians" be Ordo Hereticus Inquisitors Spoiler with justification below! - they were body guarding a hereticus Inquisitor at the end of Space Marine
