Gonna have to call foul on that one. Using agile development as an excuse for not showing a public roadmap is a boo boo and you know it. You can provide context for that public roadmap with accompanying streams and State of the Crusades as they pop up. If doesn't need to be in-depth (though that would be nice) and would provide a centralized information resource for those who want to know how far along development is at a glance. If you don't want to publish a public roadmap, fine but you have to accept that you're going to give off the impression of no development traction, and the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. You still have to hit milestones even in agile development and a roadmap updated weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly doesn't impact that at all. This is especially true with Founder's Access at least 5 months away. If you're gonna tout the transparent development, it's time to clean the glass.
How can u call foul? Right now the game is going any which way right now the devs show, so If they have a roadmap saying, one thing they want to aim for right now before founder access, but then notice a nother problem/ community said they don't like as much so devs wanted to rework it to make the community happy they would move and change their priorties. Thus making the map inaccurate causing chaos. And then if not they have to constantly update and change according to their priorities, and what they cannot and can add to it.
You are more than welcome to have different opinions than I have on agile development. I've transitioned more than a 1000 people at companies to agile game development on an enterprise scale in the last 10 yeasr, so I believe my experience in this is mildly applicable. Just the fact that you believe that milestones dictate sprint deliveries ad infinitum is against the agile manifesto itself. And enterprise agile is more than capable of knowing what which hand is doing, since after all, it's all visible to every single team member, and planning even involves the entire team on release milestones but remember also, we respond to change over following a plan. Enterprise Agile (and it's various forms) were made to efficiently managed this size of teams. This part of the manifesto is even more important in game development, as your iterations and sprints rely on massive feedback channels to find "fun" instead of implementing functionality from a backlog. Was it fun to chop that guy in the face? Yes? No? vs a situation where "Were you able to sign into account management? Yes? No?". You don't plan that "Melee" will take 3 sprints. You can plan that account management takes 3 sprints as it's a more known size. So yes, we do update milestones and the roadmap, for the entire team, per sprint in some cases, due to game development not being predictable in finding fun. And no, I do not intend to put up such a fluid roadmap, which most people would fail to understand in the first place, unless they are familiar with the fundamentals of agile game development. And judging by the feedback on the forums to the necessary changes that were required through facts, I don't think we're at that point yet. Post-launch maybe for expansions, but right now, y'all have to wait for Founders Access which is already an established and published gate.
Well it's mien own expertly true fact opinion that these responses can only mean Nathan is conspiring against us. We need to look past all these "facts" and "evidence" and "opinions based on quantifiable evidence" and instead just shoot from the dick. As we all know, the only proven method of politiking is to browbeat the opposition into submission. Now, here's my objective 15 true facts that prove Nathan is evil and wants us dead. Be warned, the sheer truthiness may cause your ears to bleed. 1. He's a shark eating Icelander 2. Because I said so 3. Oveur sounds French, and everyone knows that all French people hate Amurica 4. If you hate Amurica you must be either a terrorist or a communist. Based on all the imperical data that I totally didn't make up we can only conclude that he's a commie terrorist. 5-14. are too horrible to articulate into actual words, but trust me they prove all this to be true beyond a shadow of a doubt. 15. He's clearly writing walls of text just to confuse us and cause misdirection to distract us from the fact that he is working with the Canadian government in their secret Illuminati plot of world domination. Now rise brothers and take to the streets, because together we can start a riot that accomplishes nothing, and isn't that what the dream is about?
LOL, the self entitlement of millenials just keeps getting worse and worse. If these kids spoke to anyone in person the way they do on the internet, everyone would spend their twenties in the hospital for being near beaten to death, rather than in a bar, or "liking" things on social media. PRO TIP #1: you are NOT special, the rules of society and polite public conduct DO in fact apply DIRECTLY TO YOU! PRO TIP #2: your right to know something, or have your opinion heard does NOT trump other people's rights! To Nathan: I work in an industry where I have to put up with this nonsense on a daily basis as well, just nothing as neat as game development. It is SO refreshing to see someone who straight up tells these self entitled children EXACTLY where to get off, without having to "customer service" it up. I thank you for that.
You misunderstand what I'm asking for. I'm asking for an abstraction. I don't want the nitty gritty of what you're doing with each mechanic and system. I just want "MELEE: 25% done, RANGED COMBAT: 30%, ENGINE: 80%, FACTIONS: 50%, SERVER: 20%" etc. That's not an unreasonable request. Update it as you're satisfied with your progress, and adjust it forward or backwards as you work on these features, just provide context when you move it back or forward on why you did. There's no overarching word on how the project is progressing and being the Warmaster, you know fairly clearly where your teams are at and what they're doing, we shouldn't have to go to multiple sources of info (twitch, SOTC, forums, etc) to get a sense where the game is at. Then you can tie this in with your weekly twitch streams, and monthly State of the Crusades where you can expound in greater detail what you're working on, how it's working out, and etc. I appreciate what you're doing but even with agile development you can provide us with some semblance of progress. As for people taking it poorly when you have to reverse course, you didn't exactly do the most gentle easing of expectations when Behavior literally went from "Hey we're doing an open world!" to Miguel getting put out the pasture to "Hey, the open world thing isn't happening right now but maybe later, we hope!" That's the literal equivalent of dropping people's expectations off a cliff. Not your fault, you came in to reign in the expectations. Totally understandable but perhaps give people a little bit of credit, they're smarter and tougher than you give them credit for as long as you give them some warning you're going to remove or change a feature. Lastly, you can't take every idiot's detraction as a personal attack and I'm sure you don't because if you did we'd never see those spandex-clad cheeks you gross Icelandic weirdo. Whatever you do, we support you. Just in case that wasn't obvious. I won't bring this up anymore.
The Eternal Crusade Community has been remarkably civil these past couple of months. When you take into account that many of the big draw card aspects of the planned game are now being put on the back burner. Miguel had built up a great deal of hype for this game with his motto "Under Promise, Over Deliver", and what he promised the game would have and be. And for the past couple of months this formerly massive game has been getting slowly watered down each week it seems. So there is very legitimate concern on what will be left of the Planned game on Launch. Other Early Access games have been ripped to shreds for far less by the gaming community. The only posts that were uncivil towards you in this thread were these few relatively tame comments: You have a very unique and somewhat refreshing sense of humor, but how would you like it if we all started commenting on the forum in the same way you do. Here's an example: Spoiler "Ahh, how I love you my small cuddly xeno. What would I do without you? I spent the last 2 months hard at work to save up the extra money so that I could invest into this game and purchase everything you have on offer. So I didn't have time to read all the forum posts and watch all the Twitch Streams to find out what the hell is going on with this games development. Maybe we should just stop interacting with you devs and let you guys read our minds. This so called "transparent game development" seems to be pretty much shit anyways, as the devs love to give us vague answers, which is getting to epic proportions. I can't be bothered reading through the repeated answers from the devs of how this game will miraculously be awesome, not to mention that most games have huge difficulty being successful if they ignore their players feedback. I mean, why bother? I'd rather spend my money and entire time playing on another game where the devs listen to us. We've added some suggestions for you devs to have a look at, when we've had the spare time to do so. Although we would have preferred to have spent our time playing other games, and spending time with our family and friends so they don't end up in mental institutions or rehab. You know, the important things in life. So get the fuck civil. If you want to talk experience, my experience is that when game developers are vague and have a "zero tolerance" to the Communities feedback, they usually fail big time. I have no problems with decreased policies on open and honest feedback - but picking fights with your customers is getting old and is a sure fire way to make sure nobody ventures onto the forum to interact with you devs. You might even have noticed that absence yourselves. So think about that for a while. You want more interaction? Try being civil like you were talking directly to our faces. It's how real life works." Most of the above is not what I personally believe and would never dream to type it, as it's far too confrontational and unconstructive. And would actually expect to get a temporary ban if I posted something like that. I was just copying your format and humor to try and prove a point. I personally like you, but I can see future sh!tstorms being created if you devs are confrontational instead of Humble. (<<< This Twitch stream was an absolutely fantastic response by you and was the main reason I purchased the Xeno Pack and everything in the Store) I actually see the interaction between us and the devs as an Early Beta Test for the devs Customer Service, and I'm trying to give feedback so that you devs can weed out the "bugs" in your interaction with us. As I and most of us on this forum have a passion for this game to be successful as possible. And being blind fanboys will not help this games development very much. Constructive and civil interaction between the Community and the Devs is an absolute must, for those that want this to be a great game.
How can you say melee 25% done when you have no idea whether or not the iteration you just went through was any good?
wow that was long lol.. And not just in this thread, other threads nathan has been attack and people have been hostile for no reason saying random things that he did not say
