Small Map Ideas

@BrentEllison mentioned that small maps may be in the works. I think this is a wonderous thing because some maps have a considerable amount of underused space that could honestly fill this need.

    For example:

Every version of Blackbolt trenches honestly could be its own level. Literally just rip them out of the earth and toss them on any ground template you want, maybe fiddle with some underground passageways to make sure jpas can't have all the fun. Ruins for backup locations for contested points. This space could easily satisfy a great 15v15 battle. Just have 2 capture points underground that each side owns and spawns on.

Blackbolt offers two additional spaces for inspiration. The "sandlot" between A and B points is a fantastic arena style template. Surrounded by impassible walls, this place can really focus maps into a more open, but just as intense environment as trenches. Enlarging it a bit and you've got a really tactical/technical area where tactics of all types can occur between PuGs and Guildsincredibleese style maps really lend themselves to PuGs v Guilds as well because Zerging is a viable tactic since there's really only one way to go. (even guilds struggle on bridges against PuGs).

The last place Blackbolt offers is its garages and corridors from its current version and the orginal. These offered really tight battles that we haven't seen in way too long to be honest. Blackbolt v1 on Bravo Point were some of, if not the most intense fights in any game I've ever witnessed and I honestly don't know why we took that away. Alpha on v1 was also incredible.

    Other small map ideas:

Tunnels & corridors with boxes and crates in them.

A quadwide bridge using assets from Medusa, including the lava. Use a singular widened version of the bridges that span out from Alpha, complete with their ornate girders and side rails. Fill them with crates like Pegasus. Have the towers essentially be "gatehouses" that extend the support of the bridge across the map and just have a giant field of lava underneath. You could have a ruins map be a submap of this one as well. Just have it be on an island surrounded by burning hot lava. Mini bridges for a fun "world conquest" feel where we can enact territory control on the small scale. The bridge above should essentially be just large enough to push a tank through (but please don't actually put a tank on it). A single node on either side with one "neutral" node in the middle. Depending on how long you make the map, feel free to have a few of the "ruined" bridges span parrallel to the main bridge or even underneath it.

A good start to 15v15 intense mode. Maybe eveb 20v20 I hope. Any thoughts?

Oh an Zedek offers some incredible opportunities as well. Zedek C is the obvious choice but I would definitely redesign the top level to be less directional and more symmetrical, and also less necessary with the Tower. I would also focus a bit more on the ground level battles since most people fight on the roof anyway, but there's really interesting stuff to do underneath that would certainly see play in a small map.

A good tunnel battle would be how the attackers deployment zone works. Just needs more cover and it could work pretty well. Maybe clone the building parts that are attached to the walls, flip it, and create an "X" map layout. Could be really interesting and potentially a layout for 4 faction battles if we ever see them.

Not sure what you mean. Almost every level but the corridor one has open skies. Should be plenty of room to manuever.

And honestly the corridor one could be done in a way where JPAs are still useful. Look at SM's Basilica. It was full of corridors, JPAs thrived on that level.
  5. That d be great!

some portions of the fortress maps wouldnt be too bad

    i.e. for both fortresses:
sections before the wall (destroyed buildings/ruins)
    section around point A

Yeah I'd love to see a more building focused level. Maybe a sort of arena styled map with buildings arranged around a plaza (think giant statue) and players fight building to building.

Cap point underneath one of those "bunkers" in thr middle of the streets. There's one exactly like this on Zedek just before Delta point. Statue on top. Seems like a perfect multifaction FFA level where there's only 1 point and the game runs until a force holds it for x amount of minutes.

  7. it would make a great king of the hill type of map.

it s a bit of a shame that these areas are not used more as most received a fair amount of attention.

Speaking of a Basilica, Zedek and the 3 fortresses offer plenty of options to design an interesting "mini" version of each final point that could be fought as a symmetrical level.

I just hope that for the new maps they wouldn't put the frigging capture points inside those same buildings that all the maps have.. It doesn't matter if the map is big or small or has buildings or tanks or what ever if all you are going to do is run inside those buildings to a cluster fuck and respawn to either a rhino nearby or to your spawn at which point you just spawn another rhino to drive it next to the point. There was ONCE an open area capture point in alpha an it was the best experience and most 40k feeling i've had yet. (ofc they took that point away and put it inside a building).

Point is if the map is small it would just mean less walking distance to a capture point building.. Nobody spends time outside these days with the eldar vehicles and all.

If only they could give us back Blackbolt v1 as a whole, it was a fantastic and intense map.
