Hi guys, just wondering what tactics and techniques should SM deploy vs Eldar now at this point in time? Been playing a few SM vs Eldar games and most of the time SM loses lately.

Just asking for advice and opinions for new players as well as seasoned players.

    Shoot them in the head
    No Shieldbros.
Grav-Guns only against vehicles, Lascannons preferred, especially in a pred.
Storm-bolters, Stalker-Bolters and JPA's are all really good if you can't realibly hit with a normal Boltgun.
Stalkers are a good counter against Reaper-launchers or Hawks.
Always look behind you and above you, protect your teammates, especially Devastators and Apothecaries.
Don't deploy too many heavy weapons in offense.
Use skulls if you can't burst nades.
Coordinate your team. Eldar talk to each other. If you don't, you lose. And if you don't do it, chances are nobody will.

  3. For melee, Power Mauls all the way! 1 shot all but veterans from every direction on heavy attack, and if you go solo, as an opportunist using teammates as a distraction so they do not notice you until it's too late, you can be deadly.
Storm Bolters are good vs Eldar (and orks as well thinking about it)
Stalker Bolters headshotting Eldar can be utterly deadly
Melta is NOT effective AV vs Eldar, but is ok at killing Eldar infantry, use lascannons or Grav and melta bomb loadouts
Rollex if you so wish (I will not but go ahead if you really feel the need to)
Watch out for their heavies, they have some nasty 1 shot weapons with very high accuracy and no las Cannon style beam
Don't stay still for too long
Always assume a hawk is aiming at you from behind/above and you may not be able to effectively return fire because they will move behind a roof
If defending a ticket map, use a plasma cannon because they love Eldar skulls

    Play Chaos loyalist weakling!
  4. few times me and protesik forced half of eldar team leave and rest of them act like loyalists - to sit on spawn or try to fly across our stalker abuse shits

Sometimes Smart Bolt Pistols and Servo Skulls can be brutal to Striking Scorpions and Swooping Hawks as well.

    1. Storm Bolters, use them unless it's a map with wide open areas where you can dominate the range (and then, the Stalker Bolter is still a better choice). Get the Vengeance Storm Bolter and you pretty much got an Iwin button so long as you can keep it pointed in the rough direction of the Eldar to be killed. Against Eldar, avoid the Standard Bolter unless you're great shot to begin with.

    2. Don't run ahead of your group. If you respawn and there's no immediate pressure to get to the point, wait for 2 more buddies to respawn with you (use this time to protect a Rhino if you spawned in one). Much of Eldar's "magic" works by their opponents not pressuring them in force but rather one-by-one. Don't trickle into Eldar lines, they're the best when it comes to flanking.

    3. Speaking of flanking, flank them! Eldar literally MELT when blindsided. They need to coverplay alot due to their low EHP.

    4. Finish the downed (and that means NO EXECUTIONs). Eldar (like Chaos) have good ranged mobile healers. So if you down an Eldar, keep the trigger pulled till it's actually finished. Use a grenade if you need to bug out but make sure the downed stays down. Don't execute. Executions are the like big exclamation marks yelling "HERE, shoot me! I'm not moving and I'm begging to be shot!".

    5. Area dominate. A common error I see on LSM is when they storm a cap room, they often don't spread across the room to secure it. They either all stay at one end of it or they gather around the cap terminal. Get to the upper floors and really blanket that room with your team. Spread out as if you were defending it (which technically you are). Flip situation: if you defend, don't start running towards one end once you hear one shot on the other side of the room. That lopsides your defense and opens an opportunity for the enemy team to wrest area control from you. Trust in your team mates to deal with the problem at hand, only move there once friendly bodies start dropping. More often then not, a def was lost not because the defense on the pressured side buckled but because it was backstabbed when most of the defending team suddenly all ran to one side of the room and left their backs exposed.

LSM strength lies in defense, have your squads back and your good. Sadly all your going to find on loyalist is a bunch of 'Rambos' running off in all directions so your better off just going Chaos whose strategy is more in line with said offensive 'Rambo' style gameplay.

Or just roll Eldar if you want a stress free life. Or Ork because Orks don't take anything seriously and everything that happens on Ork is just hilarious, the good and the bad.

Anyone use JPA to counter Eldar effectively?
  9. Mauf DrMauf Subordinate

    Not use but getting "countered".

Take all your ambush/surprise/pistoleering skills for the JPA. Climb onto them and what you see on the horizon is what you need in order to be effective against Eldar. You need to be on top of your JPA game but if you are, you can wreck Eldar. But if you mess up your play, if you misaim/mistime a smash attack or you hit a wall, miss a heavy attack or stick around too long, you will pay for it as the pretty common TLASC will mince you within your recovery animations.
