Skirmish Map Idea

    I posted dis in da founda's lounge, but it didn't seem ta' get much feedback, so I be postin' it 'ere

    Skirmish Map

    A skirmish map that never ends. It takes advantage of the current system where players earn their experience as they get it, rather than at the end of matches. The skirmish map would never end. There would 40 players maximum, 10 players from each faction. Additionally tyranids spawn, with a spawn threshold of 15. A mix of Termagaunts, Hormagaunts, and Warriors would spawn throughout the skirmish, up to a maximum equaling their spawn threshold. Termagaunts and hormagaunts count as 1 unit each, warriors count as 5. For each missing player the tyranids spawn threshold increases by 5. When a player joins the tyranids over the spawn threshold do not disappear, however tyranids may only spawn when their spawn threshold isn't met. So no new tyranid units would spawn until their numbers are culled.

    Potential use for testing open world mechanics and server handling.



    Now 'ere be two re-purposed responses I made from dat thread in da' founda's lounge

    --Ye'd be foightin' each uvva' jus' loik a typical match, blokes wuuld come and go az dey please gettin' stuck in. Blokes what have schedules w'ere dey don't 'ave toim ta' commit ta' a full game could join, kill sum beekees, get killed by sum beekees, den leave wen dey got sumfin' dey need ta' do in loif. Dey get all da rewards dey earned, and don't need ta' worry 'bout winnin', lozin', er lettin' dere team down cuz dat don't 'appen on dis game mode. Jus' a constant WAAAGH!

    Rewards would kinda be needed. Wif out 'em blokes probably wouldn't even botha'. Why waste yer toim 'avin' fun and not gettin' rewarded 'ere, when ye can waste yer toim 'avin some fun and get rewarded fer it ova' dere? Ye'd want dis kinda fing alwayz filled wit' enthusiastic blokes ready ta' get stuck in!


    --Also don't 'ave da battlefield be devoid o' objective fings in da map. 'Ave points 'ere and dere what reward da faction datz got it az long az dey hold it. Capture cartain pointz ta' get vehicle spawnz, pointz fer betta' spawn locashunz on da map, and uvva' fings

    Give some leeway on a map wit' basic set o' minor objectives and blokes begin makin' dere own objectives fer da fun o' it

    Ideas Wut Be Added In Afta' Da Fact
    @Deathwish Giv each faction multiple spawn locashuuns scatta'd around da map so ye can't easily spawn camp factions
    @Reecini Potentially put a cap on EXP/rewards ta' prevent blokes from uzin' dis az a meanz ta' farm.
    [Though if'n it wuuld be an issue I'd prefa' a slight reduction in rewards in dat map ratha' den a cap fer 'em]
    Parhaps uze dis 'ere map az a waitin' room between matches? Koinda loik how sum blokes wish dey cuuld queue fer games in da garrison and toy around wif stuff. Parhaps ye cuuld wait fer a match in dis map and actshually foight blokes while ye wait? Dat er jus' muck 'bout in it. Dis'd be combined wut wif da idea dat dis map grants lowa' rewards

  3. Plus ye gunna 'ave all 4 factions in it, each one iz gunna 'ave dere own spawn point

    Also da best way wuuld be ta' 'ave dem tyranids in da' map az well since dey attack evarywun

    Sorry if I sounded bitter, I agree that it would indeed basically remove spawncamping
    Of course, at that point you're playing PvPvPvPvE CoD. I have to wonder if it has to be disguised as a training sim or something to make the fanbase accept it

  7. No worries. I'm gunna begin postin' me ideas, stupid er uvva'wise, dat I've only put in me document on me computa'. So I'll be expectin' bitta' er negative comments and all dat. Dis wuz me first wun from it. Wevva' er not it be good don't matta' az long az it gets blokes finkin'
    Plus az I sed I kan, and probably will, edit fings inta' da OP wut be good additions/suggestions

    I jus' figured it'd be loik an open battleground what wif little objectives sprinkled 'bout. Foight Tyranids, foight uvva' factions, capture points, wuteva' ye want!

    Also dat wuz one o' me initial ideaz fer it. Ye can come and join az ye please. So trainin' wif new gear, tryin' out squad tactics wif yer hearties er yer guild, and etc could be done in da map. No need ta' worry 'bout lozin' er winnin' a match, and ye still get rewarded fer yer efforts



    EDIT: In regards ta' me first portion o' me post, I be tryin' not ta' spam me ideaz all in wun go, space dem apart a tad. Howeva' I seem da 'ave fergotten dat me post from da founda's lounge wuz made yestarday and dat dis wun in da Genaral Forum wuz made ta'day and I've already posted anuvva' one idea

    I believe that is something similar to what nathan wanted territories to be. Not sure how high those are in the priority list tho. probably not high

    I think that this is a good idea, hopefully the devs think so too. It certainly adds an element of "eternal" crusading to the game. Although it is just directly adding more people from all factions into a horde/lair game it will benefit the casual gamers and hopefully keep them playing.

    My only comments are:

    Boosting - players may find this mode easier than standard pvp so to stop people being permanently sat in the open war zone reducing the player base further maybe add some exp/reward cap per day

    Maps - to keep the Tyranids as a serious threat with the increased number of players the maps will have to be pretty confined. Perhaps a series of tunnels (lair) connecting to larger 'arena' type areas (horde).

    However the main issue I see with this is team balance. One player from one faction may join to find themselves up against three ten man squads from the other factions plus the nids. At the moment I can't think of a way to counter this...
