Sidegrade And Balance Are Two Different Things!

Yeah, basically all they need to do to make the sidegrade thing work is to make sure there is a type of bike that can be earned in-game.

In order to be a sidegrade, you need to be comparing apples to apples. One bike can be a sidegrade to another bike (if they are balanced with each other of course), a rocket launcher can be a sidegrade to another rocket launcher.

A bike cannot be a sidegrade to an APC, and a rocket launcher cannot be a sidegrade to an LMG, because that's apples to oranges. They're completely different things that are not comparable.

  2. I'm fine with the whole bike thing if regular Attack Bikes are available to everyone. Being able to bring an extra person along in your ride and get a little extra firepower is something I can live with. But if one fast attack option is unavailable to free players entirely then wow. I by the way have bought the Bike for myself because i have a soft spot for vehicles of all varieties.

    Good thread Grigdusher.

As Bladerunner says hiding content behind a second paywall, I will not get tired of repeating this, you are also denying the 2 seat bike to paying customers not just to f2p orks, is what bothers me, I don't think the devs or anyone in the team it's stupid, I'm sure that sidegrades will be as balanced as possible and they will hear what we have to say about balance once we are testing those items.

There are two ways to address the issue:

    1) make all gear sidegrades in the RTS available in-game as well.

    2) Eliminate all statistical variance in RTS gear, and make it strictly cosmetic. Introduce an IN-GAME system for upgrades and modification of gear.

Choice 1 will still leave the game open to Pay2Win accusations from the truly hardcore.

Choice 2 completely eliminates the P2W stigma.

That's the conclusion I eventually came to, and why I switched stances on this topic over the last three months.

3)Atleast re-tool those item's stastistics so that there is an actual drawback on using them.

Damage's counterpart isnt RoF but mobility, what hits harder will get priority targeted all the time and if it can run away on equal footing with everyone else or has the same capacity to outmaneuver incoming dangers...
RoF's counterpart isnt dmg but ammo consumption, does it even matter if bullets deal -5% dmg when more hits the target in the same time than he can me ? The side with RoF modifiers will always come up top on the dps chart. See. most of the boss kills in any rpg ever made can be described as "death of a thousand cuts", Id gladly anytime would like to have +5% rof when the trade-off is just a negligible -5% dmg.

Sure, not even a playable module is out yet and its all theorycrafting now but still felt the need to point out.

EDIT: Before someone could get angry: This was supposed to be about ranged weaponry only, otherwise ofcourse you balance a two-hander melee weapon with "rate-of-swing" against a one-handed.
  7. I think this would actually be an amazing idea Golokopitenko!
Founders Only Landspeeder - Has a jump feature, and hovers (cool factor)
    2 seats / 1 heavy bolter
Attack Bike - Has more armor/hp (whichever counts for vehicle health)
    2 seats / 1 heavy bolter

The landspeeder would have to be more fragile if the same speed is to be kept between both vehicles, which is also why I gave the speeder a jump feature. Otherwise the bike could have more health while the speeder could be faster.

  8. "The Phobos bolter lacks the grip of the Godwyn pattern bolter, making for less accurate sustained fire; the extended muzzle break, however, reduces the overall recoil of the weapon."

Good players fire in short bursts to maintain accuracy... Then they buy the Phobos, and are more accurate with those bursts.

    P2W.

Not free players. Paying players who aren't founders. Those 40 bucks won't mean a thing towards that attack bike if you don't pre-order.

Founders items should only differ from other items in terms of aesthetics. The moment you put in "sidegrades" that are either open for only a limited amount of time and/or only available through microtransactions, is the moment this game gets labeled as "P2W" and that is something you don't want.
