hello fallow crusaders Now I know what you think but hear me out. I know its an MMORPG and the basics of that is that there are that you levle every time you kill X amount of enemies, but leveling in a 40k universe would mean you get a promotion and advance higher in the ranks, well my suggestion would be to not make it only about killing X amount of enemies but also get the community involved in that decision seeing how a higher rank would give more responsibility you would not give an immature or a not nice person a sergeant rant, more so what if the guy does not want more responsibility he just likes to kill stuff. so I think the community should decide if one gets promoted after a certen level anyway what do you think?
the game will have a democatic combat chain, 10 man squad choose squad leader. 10 squads choose strike force leader. strike forces choose war coucil. the only limitation it's they can't be f2p player. the character advance and the command role are separated.
If the character advancement is how I think its going to be then as you earn xp youll slowly increase the characters rank (using SM as an example ..brother/sargeant/captain etc), The actual xp will be used in the horizontal progression/unlocks of weapons/equipment and skills. The command structure, as Grigdusher pointed out, is basically a popularity contest.
If it is like that, over the long run won't everyone become general (don't take that literally)? If it is a simple level system everyone over time will get to the top. Military doesn't work like that.
Theres only really 7 ranks for Space Marines and only 4 of those will probably be in EC as achievable; Scout.......................not in EC as an achievable rank Marine Specialist.................probably not in EC as an achievable rank Sargeant Veteran Sargeant Captain Chapter master...........not in EC as an achievable rank not counting such 'ranks"/professions as Chaplains, Librarians, Techmarines, or Apothecaries
So in EC the ranks would reflect more an indication of the characters gametime experience, and could be used to guess at possible progressions/unlocks that would of been availible at that rank, only guess mind you since which progressions or unlocks the character followed is a player choice, and yes, after a long enough period of time there will be a lot of sargeants/veteran sargeants and captains running about but thats pretty typical for any MMO rank structure. since a characters rank will probably not relate to an actual chain of command : like.. squad leader/strike force leader/war council does it really matter what rank characters have?
I agree completely on ranking system would rather that than the same ol lvling bullshit in most mmo. Not too keen on player votes to achive higher rank status because im sure it will soon tyrn into a popularity contest, thow to some degree it should be up to the player if he wants to take on the role of say WC or strike force command. As i see it should depend on the keys strategic points caputred and amounts of territory claimed within a planned attack by the wc or strike command within that faction to gain exp for capturing positions, kind of gives it a more team based game tht way and will encourage players to band together insted of solo play. Kill xp gains, lets face it were in a war and players are goin to die all the time and be killing all the time so i see little to no point in gaining exp for that.
